replacing front exhaust pipe on lexus ES350
Well, at 150 000 miles, got a loud noise beneath the engine, sound like a V8, found out that the front exhaust pipe has to be replaced. OEM pieces cost 1500.00 can and the whole bill comes close to 1700.00 can, does it make sense ? I know it is rare to replace that part since i had to wait for the dealer to come with the piece.
thank you.
thank you.
You should get estimates from independent shops or one of the big muffler chains such as Midas or Meineke. They would likely use less expensive aftermarket parts. For a car with that kind of mileage I would have no problem installing less expensive aftermarket exhaust parts. It also helps to have a second evaluation as dealers are known for over selling expensive repairs when something less expensive would get the job done.
I ordered my mechanic to buy the OEM parts, i think it is the whole front part including the catalytic converter, flex. The job was done at my own mechanic. Yes, he offered me the option to go with a muffler shop, but the steel quality is not the same. The cause of the failure was rust which i can do anything about it. The mid pipe is starting to get rusted, but not major.
