I installed an F-Sport air filter when I bought my 2010 IS 250 AWD brand-new. I have cleaned it with soap and water and a toothbrush every 30k miles based on the fact that the owner's manual calls for a replacement of the OEM filter at this interval.

I moved to Arizona last year, so it is obviously a lot more dustier than Oregon.

When I had my 90k fluid change (oil+brake) done a the Lexus dealer today they told me they'd take it out and clean it for $13; I couldn't resist that price--especially from a dealer!

When I picked the car up he told me it wasn't very dirty and that they used compressed air to clean it out....

Any idea if this is as efficient as the soap+water method?

I will probably also clean my air filter every 15k now that I live in a dusty state, as I am trying to get 250k miles out of this IS without any major repairs/replacement.

 

I don't know of anyone that cleans their intake... at all. Filters yeah but not intakes. I can see maybe why you would from time to time but not every 15k. I doubt other than for looks you're gaining anything from doing so.... longevity to 250k isn't going to reside in your intake alone.

 

You can clean it with compressed air or shop vac to vacuum it. It's an oil-less air filter and the compressed air is just as good as soap and water.

I have 102k miles on my 2006 is250 and I really want it to last 200k-250k to! What else do you recommend to do to keep it in perfect shape besides putting synthetic oil and premium fuel?

 

I've owned 5 cars in the past 5 years--the longest I have ever kept a car was my Ferrari, for 4 years and 1 month. I don't have any experience with longevity in cars, but I have decided to keep this IS because I like it and its almost paid off.

I follow Lexus's Maintenance Schedule (minus all the overpriced "inspections") at the dealer. They let me buy my parts from Sewell so it's all good.

I don't use synthetic oil in my IS, but I always use Shell or Chevron Premium fuel.

 

I thought it was a MUST to use synthetic oil in our cars?

 

The owner's manual does not call for Synthetic.

 

How does your Fsport intake sound and what do you think of it

 

It sounds great. Gives a little deep growl that wasn't there before.

Been going strong for 6 years now!
