SC to GS SRT intake question
I’m seriously considering getting a SRT intake & ECU for my ‘99’ SC400. I’ve talked with Marken @ SRT and he informed me that it would work on my model after talking with someone else. In that the kit only available for your model (GS 400) the closest to mine, I’ll have to make some serious modifications. I’ll have to cut the bracket that holds the power steering fluid reservoir and relocate it to a location that is similar to yours and also create my own custom cold air intake box. Which all of this is Ok with me! In that the current version is only a 3” all the way to 3.5” diameter right at the throttle body without an ECU upgrade. I’ve done the search in your forum and have found mixed opinions. Given that I’ll have to do some considerable work, in your opinion is it worth the $595?
I’m beggin’ for some opinionated response and I’ll give your forum back to you!
Thanks from an SC.

I'm a fan of my SRT Intake and ECU, but I have to say... based on what you'd have in front of you... that I personally would not plunk down $595 for the combo for a car that it was not built for.
Although the engine designation is the same, the engine specs are slightly different in the SC (not sure what all the differences are, but HP at a minimum is different if I recall correctly). I'm guessing the engine management software is going to be different as well - after all there are different exhaust systems, different factory intakes designs, etc.
Even the slight differences between the GS400 and GS430 caused SRT to have to re-flash the programming in their piggy-back ECU. You are not going to have the ability to do that reprogramming with yours. And even less ability to make it understand any differences in design that the SC engine bay will cause you to make to the system. It is VERY sensitive to changes in airflow over the filter.
IMO - the only way I'd attempt to do it is if someone gave you the intake / ECU for free.

Dave,
Thanks for the response and your right the base factory HP for the SC is 290 and the GS is at 300 for the same model year. Sounds like I’m out of luck unless I can get SRT to guarantee the application will work. Have any of you dealt with SRT? Do they stand behind their product and work with you to correct problems?

Mo told me that about a guy running the intake on his LS400. Similar issues with the install but not with the ECU. The only diff between the GS and LS and SC are the exhaust with the SC and LS having more restriction therefore the lower power. Intakes are different but do not effect power as the flows are all within a very small margin of each other.
The SRT is definitely the best choice for air flow mod. If I had an SC, I would do the BFI mod at Peter Scotts site and attach the SRT 3.5" pipe to the back of the stock filter housing with a K&N replacement filter. I asked Mo if he would sell me just the intake parts needed for my LS (the 90 degree bend, hoses, ECU) and discount for the heat sheild and filter but he wouldn't offer it that way...
