Default 2.5" piping on a GS430

Today i did a muffler delete and replaced with a 2.5 piping with magnaflow tips..

For some reason i feel that i lost end torque..

I still have the full OEM piping from the cats all the way after the resonators..

Anybody have experienced the same?

Any inputs

thanks

correct me if i am wrong, but i read somewhere going 2.5" is a no no if you dont have certain mods. just delete the resonator if you are looking for beastly sound.

Why did you change your mufflers but are hesitant about changing your resonators?

The tips are 3 inches, but they are just that.......tips.

Stock piping is 2.25".

The larger the piping the less back-pressure = less low end torque.

Ergo, you need to have an FI engine for larger piping.

The reason you lost torque is because you lost back pressure when you went with bigger piping. Stock is 2.25". The only other route you can go to use this to your advantage other that FI is get an SRT intake and tune you car.

Jewcano, i didnt replaced the resonators because i wanted to keep them a lil bit quieter..

Now that i know the reason on this, I think im gonna have to end up changing the piping to 2.25..

828gs i already have an srt intake.. still no help..
sadddd

When i left the shop i was happy cuz of the sound but sad cuz i lost torq =-(

Wait.....you didn't remove the resonators cause you wanted to keep it quiet? Do you know what mufflers are for? The name implies their purpose, to muffle.

You need to put your mufflers back on and yank the resonators or put in high flow parts in which will keep it quiet without killing your low end torque too much.

Exactly. If you want it to be quiet but gain performance take out the resonators and leave the mufflers.

Ive removed the mufflers and replaced them with 3in piping, from the flange where the mufflers would bolt up to the rear. Would this mod be considered as part of the "piping" or just something like a "straight-through" 3in axle back?

Same thing as the OP but you should feel more torque lost but it shouldn't be that bad for either of you since it's so down the piping.

Honestly I didnt notice any loss in torque, if any thing I gained some. Perhaps its because the mod is so far back in the exhaust system (axle back) that it didnt effect bottom end performance. In addition, the car sounds mean, deep and throaty. I recommend it if you dont want to spend so much money on a catback that will yeild roughly the same performance( If any).
