Default Tanabe HM Catback Exhaust Installed Today

Got a great deal from another CL member -- we swapped the Tanabe for the stock exhaust and a bit of $$$. Smoking deal!

I've been looking for an exhaust primarily for sound and looks and to address all those squeaks and rattles. You know the fix -- get a loud exhaust so you can't hear the little squeaks and rattles.

Nice, high quality exhaust with BIG tips. Too big for my preference but maybe the look will grow on me. Not particularly happy with how it tucks in under the bumper -- while each pipe is symetrical to each other they sit offset within the cut-out. I'll bring it to my favorite muffler shop to have it better aligned.

Sound is great but surprisingly quiet, more so than the RMM [which IMO is quiter than the Ltuned and Borla.] While it has a nice rumble [barely heard within the cabin across the RPM range] it is a bit higher pitched than the RMM. I'll reset the ECU tonight so no comments on any "performance" gain.

Question: Will the Tom's rear lower -closed- brace fit? The Tanabe HM exhaust does include some sort of resonators, but I'm not sure if they are smaller and/or in the same position as the stock exhaust. Thanks.

I'm having another shop [Exact] check the install. There are a few new rattles and I want to see if I can get the tips centered. I may get some of the piping redone to accomodate the closed Tom's rear brace and new [smaller] tips as well. I'll post pics soon.

Some feedback now that I have had them on for a few days. First, I am extremely pleased with the quality, looks and sound of the Tanabe but will concede that tastes will vary. Some updated observations:

1) They are indeed louder than the RMM.
2) There's still debate, but they may actually have a deeper tone than the RMM.
3) You definitely get some feedback in the car but it's just enough to know what the heck is going on when you are driving.
4) There is a drone right at 2K RPM, but it is not very noticeable from within the cabin and if you E-Shift its not an issue.
5) The overall sound from the outside is absolutely kick butt.

Met with 5 other local CL members on Friday for lunch [we all forgot to shoot a some pics, go figure]. After lining the cars up I no longer feel that the tips are too big. They are big but match several other brands for size including GReddy and RMM. The Borla tips are smaller, have a nice oval shape and appear much more refined. One other member has a GReddy [not sure the model] but the GReddy Exhaust had bigger tips that stuck out farther, the tone was WAY deeper and overall the exhaust was louder.

I did reset the ECU the day of the install and have driven for a few days. Don't know whether the car just sounds faster, but it sure feels faster. Of course that may be the redline synthetic, right Henry, .

Very nice exhaust. How big are the end tips? Searched for "Tanabe HM" on google but could not find any info on it I am debating between the Greddy PE and this. Not sure which will fit the best for the Lsportline bumper. I currently have the Lsportline exhaust, but for some reason I want a change.

Mariusz,

The "HM" stands for Hyper Medallion; if you spell it out then I'm sure it will probably find some info for ya

The look really nice, I was so ready to jump on that deal in the cl marketplace, but I decided to go with Greddy PE, that hopefully I will be able to get off another CL member before he sells his car.

Hey 1sicklex, did you decide on which exhaust you wanted to get? I remember you wanted to get rid of your borla's. I was leaning toward either HKS or RMM.

Based on cost and sound the RMM were my first choice. But the Tanabe at $360 installed were too good to pass up.

I'll probably have to bump the rear of the car up a 1/2" as the larger tips are occasionally scraping on my driveway.

Hey I would of done the same thing if I were in your shoes ! For that price, its a steal ! The lowest price I found was $700 plus installation. Btw:, you know any good place to get the RMM mufflers? The best place I found was at www.i-m-racing.com which they sell for $590. Anyone ever dealt with them?

RMMGS was trying to get together a group buy on the RMM Exhaust, but I am not sure where that stands.
