Default Rough Idle Virtually Gone!

sup fellas!

i'd thought i'd share with you about my car's rough idle. you guys probably have seen my past threads about my rough idle issue. well, i brought my car into Longo Lexus about 2 months ago and had Veronne check it out. now that dude is one cool guy. if you ever need any service done at Longo, ask for him (thanks Will for the recommendation!). what he had done for my car was an engine decarb. he tells me that they put a whole crap load of techron in my car and basically cleans out my whole internals. my car's idle felt a little bit improved, but it was still idling a bit rough. rpm still stayed around 400rpm.

so last weekend, i decided to finally reset my ecu. and what do you know, the rough idle is virtually gone! i mean it's still there, but u can't really feel it. u only notice it if you turn on ur AC cuz with the AC on, it's still smoother a bit, but not too much. so far, i've been driving it for almost a week after resetting the ecu and no problems. the rpm is still the same tho around 400.

so guys with rough idle, u might want to get an engine decarb and reset ur ecu afterwards and see if it helps. it did for me and i'm one happy ****.

Thumbs up hmmmmm

Sounds like it could be part of some of the problems dealing with rough idle..
Personally on occasion - I get that rough ideal sometimes.. I run my car with 93 octance Chevron (which has Techron in it)everytime and Only Chevron and put Techron additive infector cleaner every oil change.. My car runs smooth as silk. I do get the 'shakes' every now and then - I cleaned my TPS it was dirty and now Seems to be the ticket yet sometimes once in a blue moon does it. I'm getting Lexus to replace my TPS before My warranty runs out.. It should be the real problem most of us are evperiencing...

Toyota has had its share of rough running engine situtations.
A simple but highly effective solution to some situations is cleaning the air induction hose that leads from the air box to the throttle body and the throttle body itself. Simple spray carborator cleaner will remove dirt and carbon from inside of the hose and the throttle body.

Of special note and personal experience, remove the hose and inspect it in a totally dark room. Put a high intensity small flashlight (mag-lite will do) inside the hose and cover both ends tightly. You are looking for small pin sized holes (you will see the light). These come from aging of the rubber in the heat and cold. If you see light then replace the hose. Its not to expensive.

If Toyota suffers from this, it stands to reason Lexus could/would too. After replacement of the hose and a clean throttle body the engine I experienced ran smooth as silk.

Resetting the ECU will cause the ECU to relearn current conditions and situtations. This would compensate for dirty injectors, fuel rails, throttle body, air hoses, etc and smooth out the idle somewhat.

Try it, it can't hurt anything.

One caveat - "simple spray carborator cleaner" can damage the 02 sensors. You need to make sure to get the variety that is labeled 'safe for 02 sensors'. Not all brands are; read the label of the carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner you buy.
