Default Low idle???? Any clues??

Hey guys I have been noticing that the idle in my car while stopped at a light will sometimes drop to 500 rpm. This makes the car feel shaky at idle. As soon as I put it into neutral or reverse the rpm jump to 750 rpm. Anyone have this same intermittant issue or know what this could be??? Its probably happened 3-4 times in the last 6 weeks. Its annoying.

umm, maybe have them check on the throttle body and see if it's clean?

Same here.

I sometimes have to turn on the a/c or put it in neutral. I don't understand why it's happening.

Before my VSR work mine would idle about 1000 with or without AC, now it seems to idle between 750 with no AC and between 750 and 1000 with AC, its much smoother than before, they must have cleaned and adjusted the throttle body when they were putting it all back together, a nice side effect of the VSR!

That seems high. Mine usually idles around 600.

whats weird is that the car will idle at 650 or so then you can visibly watch the rpm drop to 500 to 450 then a few seconds later the rpm starts going up to 550 -600 then drops again. Weird........I hope they can get this sorted for me. I have a freakn laundry list of stuff I want looked at. I will update this thread and let you guys know what was the deal and what they did to fix the issue

It may be closer to 600 when it's fully warmed up, but it is certainly much smoother post VSR than pre.

yeah, mine sits at about 1000 rpm when warming up. The issue is when it is warm and settled .

I took the car in and the tech said that there was a tsib on the ecu and the tcm. Now the car idles perfectly at 550 rpm. It remains stable and doesnt dip like it did before. The ECU reprogram was done to fix this. I dont know exactly what it entailed but it worked. As far as the TCM update the car feels like it shifts more smoothly and doesnt go into neutral at lights. So if I hit the gas after waiting I dont feel the car go from neutral into gear really quick. Now it feels like the tranny is left in gear at the light. I love fuel economy but not to the point where I want my tranny doing weird stuff like going into neutral at stop lights

just looked up the tsib number off of the service sheet. it is L-SB-0033-08. They recored the issues as low idle and hesitation. She definitly feels quick and smooth now. I do feel like there is a slight drop in fuel economy. I haven't done a full tank yet but I am usually around 22-21mpg. Right now I had to baby the car to just get 19.9 mpg. I will need to keep an eye on that. The 22's already knocked it down a bit. I guess I shouldn't be upset that my V8 doesn't get v6 fuel economy. LOL

Good for you ABMR.

All computers need reset buttons for one reason or another. Lexus cars have many computers and gadgets. I wish they provided us with a reset button somewhere so we wouldn't need to schedule a maintenance appointment and whatnot to do simple jobs like these.

Thanks buddy. I am relieved that they got it sorted. I was worried for a while. The VSR also seems to have gone well.

I started to notice this issue on my 08 460 as well. Will be bringing it to dealer next week with tsib to see if it fixes it.
