So i got a check engine light + check VSC u know the standard crap and the code came back as P0430 catalytic converter bank 2....my mechanic thinks i need a new catalytic converter?? how can i know that is the problem for sure? ive read on here it could be many other things and i dont want to spend $300-400 and it not be the problem...ive also had an nvidia midpipe and tanabe exhaust on for a while but i doubt they have anything to do with it. It's gonna cost you alot more than that. Being it your primary cat is attached a one piece on the header. $400 might just cover labor + $700+ for the new header with cat or some were in that range.

I haven't kept up with the forums but I am pretty sure that replacing a CAT has never fixed P0430. I would try to check for exhaust leaks in you aftermarket exhaust first. Second consider to replace the O2 sensor down stream from the cats.

Well I had p0420 same as p0430 replaced my cat and I'm good. But I'm running HFC on mine. When I took the old one out it was junk inside.

Worth mentioning the factory cats are under warranty for 8 years or 80,000 miles.

They might. You should put the stock exhaust/midpipe back on before you take it in. Better than paying $400 or more for new cats if thats the problem

^Yep! Best plan of attack right there. Covered under factory warranty, unless beyond the warranty limits.

GL!

I've reset the lights 3 times in the span of a week and they kept coming back on with the same message. I was getting ready to schedule an appointment over at the dealership to get this taken care off. Yesterday however all the lights went off on their own...im assuming this means my catalytic converter isnt bad after all? This is confusing...

I would have the dealer fix it now while it under warranty. Then to pay out of pocket when your out of warranty. Just cause it goes off doesnt mean it aint broken cause in due time it will come back. As when i had a bad cat 3-5days it be on. Then after that it goes off then right back on. Replace my HFC and since my last post till now no CEL P0420.

Besides maybe not passing inspection, what does running a bad cat do? I have no primary cats and just HFC in my JoeZ racing exhaust, so sometimes i get P0420 (O2 sims not working properly), but who cares. I dont get inspections stickers the easy way and the light on the dash occasionally doesnt really bother me much... haha

P0430 is the cat. I bought one off of ebay and changed it myself and it fixed the problem.
