Default Question on 1 or 2 mufflers

I am thinking of an aftermarket exhaust, i took it to a local place and they suggested that if I only have one real muffler and the other is not, that I can just replace the one with a magnaflow...does that make sense?

Aside from the obvious it looks different underneith, does it make sense? What is the benefit of a real dual exhaust?

Thanks

You have one resonator, then the exhaust splits into two, each going through a real muffler.
There is a slight flow increase with a dual exhaust, but since our exhaust is 2 into 1 into 2, there's not a ton of gain due to the bottleneck (at the resonator).
You could go with an appropriately sized single exhaust and save some weight, but it will look a little silly with our dual exhaust specific rear bumper.

Unless you are going to run "true" duel exhaust (headers with separate pipes going to each muffler), I really don't see the benefit of going to a single muffler. This sounds more like converting an ISX50 exhaust into an IS300 exhaust. Why would you want a single exhaust tip on a car with two outlets?

After reading your post and the others above me, I'm confused with what exactly they're suggesting you do at the shop.

Are they recommending you do a single exit exhaust or replacing one muffler with an aftermarket and leaving one stock one alone?

This is from a FS thread. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is2...-axleback.html

HKS Single canister selling for $300 - ask the seller questions, as it seems he's been running it this way for a little bit. Unique look, that's for sure.

This thread too: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is2...e-exhaust.html

Yes, yes it is.

IMHO, a big single flows better than most duals (even on V6/V8s), but it just looks better with two pipes on the back bumper of this particular car.

id say give it a try if you want to, but i'd def keep both tips as 1 looks silly to me, but have them only route the exhaust to 1 and have the other just for show.
