What is the recommended mileage of your first oil change. I know what the manual says, but i have heard its good to do it in the first 1000 miles and i heard it doesnt matter. Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks
Some people do it at 1k just because the engine is new and they believe metal shavings will be produced inside the motor from the break in process. From what I understand though, the motors are already broken in on the factory line so there is no reason to get the oil changed at 1k.

Yup... I know in one of the UOA threads at least one owner ran his original factory fill dino oil and filter to over 10,000 miles and the Blackstone analysis said it probably would've been ok to run another 1-2k miles.
I would not wait until 10-12k miles to change the oil the first time like above, I don't care what the science says. I default to my piece of mind.
I would run it to 5k and do the first oil change then every 5k after that.
Yeah, what the heck does science know!
I mean, it's your money, waste it if you want, but don't fool yourself into thinking you're doing anything but that.
For the record though, even Lexus changed the OCI to 10k miles when they switched the factory fill to synthetic oil (and syn can certainly go longer than 10k)
When I picked up mine in May, first oil change @ 1600km (1000miles) Free. Second oil change @ 8000km (5000miles) Free. Every Lexus dealer in Canada does the same. Why would one not do the first one at 1600km?
NB: Free is relative here, as the cost is builtin in either the final price or the inflated Lexus of Canada standard Freight/PDI charges.

Kurt, would you mind pointing to Lexus links that show the OCI to 10k miles (16000km)? All I can find on Lexus.ca and Lexus.com is 5k miles (8000km), And the service guide insert in the manual also states the same.
Toyota/Lexus Canada considers our cold weather to put us into the severe operating conditions category, and thus all of our scheduled maintenance reflects that.
For 2011+ USA IS250 models with factory-fill 0W20 in non-severe operating conditions, the recommended OCI is 10,000 miles. You can find this information on Lexus.com

LOL
Like I said it gives me piece of mind to do so. I change it myself so the cost is not high and I actually enjoy doing it. The fact is it's my money and it's not being wasted.

So, Calgary, Edmonton, Ft Mac, I can see, since you won't be able to start the car without a block heater in Dec, Jan, Feb. but Toronto, Montreal is far from severe operating conditions. Does Lexus/Toyota even consider the fact that Detroit is North of Windsor Ontario, and that Butte Montana gets more extreme weather than Calgary? It's a cash cow, that's all.
