This Car is Slow
Hey guys maybe you all can help me out. I bought the IS 250 for my wife last October... a week before we found out she was pregnant
. I had a 2008 C6 Corvette...
of which i miss with a passion. We traded that in to get her an SUV now i am driving the IS. Its a beautiful car inside and out, but it must tell you the thing is gutless.
I don't expect it to be my corvette, but there must be some options for adding some ***** to this car. Is there an ECU upgrade like there is for the audi/vw?
Please someone shed some light on this for me.
Thanks

Try searching the Performance sub-forum. You will find countless, countless threads on this.
The answer to your question is no. There is no chip, no ECU upgrade. Intake and exhaust would add at most 20 hp. Headers and midpipe add more, but my understanding is they're either not legal or not legal in some places. A tiny handful of people have installed or tried out supercharger kits on theirs. It's a difficult process and the kits cost upwards of $5,000.
By far, the best return on your dollar if performance is your goal is to trade the car in for a 350 and pay the few thousand dollar difference (or not, and just get an older model year or higher mileage one). This simple trade will add 100 hp.
So in summation, there is no reasonable way to significantly improve the performance of the IS250.

Or maybe not sure what 204 HP feels like ahead of time.
Back in the day, I drove a 99 Camry Solara for 10 years which was 3.0L 200 HP V6 engine and it was powerful for Toyota at the time. Switching to IS250, felt similar.
Of course today's Camry's are 3.5L V6 engines with about 268 HP or so, wow that's good power.

You do realize that driving anything slower than your Vette will now seem "slow"? LOL! Heck, when I come from driving the IS350 to my fiance's Chevy Cruze or my Civic coupe it feels like complete ***!
Ok, like others said you have no hope to really improving the performance of the IS250...BUT, you can enjoy the benefit of lowering the car on coilovers and getting some sexy wheels and looking good while getting good fuel mileage.
Your other option is getting a IS350!

I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me. Wife got the IS250 AWD. Then we decided to have a child and found out that the infant seat won't really fit in the back of an IS. So the wife got a new Rav4 and I got the IS. Sadly, the Rav4 is a Limited with the V6 in it and will outrun the IS by a LONG SHOT.
