Default What exhaust modifications can cause CELs or any warning lights?

Just curious, I know headers can cause CELs and the there's fixes to it. Then I read about some people who get CELs for installing a cat-back exhaust. Right now, I'm onto exhaust stuff for my car, got an Invidia Midpipe and I'm thinking of doing custom quads next. Will doing custom exhaust work from the axle and beyond cause a warning light? I'm surprised that when my midpipe bolts were rusted on, I had a shop blow torch them off, the left side midpipe came loose while driving home and I didn't get any warning lights even when the air was just leaving out of the cats on the driver side.

Did it come loose at the manifold or the axle back?

the warnings come from sensors in the exhaust when they sense something is amiss. The last sensors that are capable of reading problems are those secondary 02's just past the manifold cats that let the ecu know if the cats are working or not. THey dont effect engine tuning so there isnt a decrease in performance, just a nasty warning light with vsc disabled.

So, yes, you can modify your axle-back without any worry of cels, I would think.

have fun!

I've got the cheap M2 exhaust with no CEL. Thinking of getting a midpipe to pair up with the axle back....hope there is no CEL problems.
