people with SC's do it all the time, single exhausts flow better with the boosted JZ crowd...

i've had both on my 3 SC's, had a dual exhaust 1JZ, dual exhaust 2JZ SC, and a single exhaust NA-T SC300 as well I prefer the look of the duals since the car came with them from the factory but i must admit the Single sided exhaust sounded better

not really a downgrade, like stated above it does flow better on the boosted motor. The other hole would be filled professionally. I've had single exhaust on both of my sc's and s2000. Both ofcourse improved overall performance, especially on the s2000.

I don't think one single will outperform a dual setup. My exhaust is dual 2.5" and I don't see how a single 3" could outflow that. If you're gonna do I think it would be for looks, or lack of IMHO.

Are you running 2.5" from the exhaust manifold all the way back to the muffler? You may have more cross-sectional area, but that can be a bad thing if your engine doesn't need it.

Single exhaust is popular on higher powered cars. It's easier to work with when it comes to optimizing flow, and you also have less crap (weight) to carry around.

I have a 3" downpipe with a silencer that splits the exhaust into 2 2.5" pipes.

One of the main reasons people go with a single is because of less bends. For every 90 degree bend you potentially loose 50% flow (worse if not mandrel bent). Even though the cross sectional area of dual 2.5", ~8.5" as opposed to single 3", ~7" The additional bends and "Y" connector reduce flow. Cosmetically I agree that duals look better but for max flow a STRAIGHT or straighter single would flow better. Depending on if you use a cat or not, expect some loss in low end torque while N/A.
