Exhaust: Joe-z vs Borla vs F-sport
#16
For those that went from stock to Joe Z, was it noticably louder? While I know most people here want the exhaust to be louder, I'm on the exact oppositte; I just want the few additional ponies and not the sound. Is it the overall design that is loud, the high flow cats, is there anything I can do to tune down the sound but keep the few hp gain?

OP, you're in luck. Gary (gc86) and I were at a mini meet/photo shoot this past weekend and we have a rollout video where you can compare our exhaust setups (since it's the same take using the same camera, many variables in comparing are eliminated).
I'm running F-Sport Intake & Exhaust + Invidia Midpipe and as Gary mentioned he has the Borla. My car is at 0:19 (the TP), Gary's is at 0:42 (the SGM).

It's obviously hard to put a sound comparison into words, but I think my setup was a little louder than Gary's, and Gary's had a bit more high-pitched rasp. Although now that I listen, mine is kinda raspy too. They both sound great.
Can't speak to the Borla, but my setup has excellent fit & finish.

The car after me is heartmyis. I believe she has a Tanabe but unsure about her intake. The car after her's is Sffd103. I believe he has a Injen intake and Top Speed exhaust.

if you remove the cats its gonna be louder....your best bet though, if you wanna keep it quiet, is to keep the stock rear and maybe the mid, and just get some ppe headers with high flow cats. It'll give it a nice growl but still be pretty quiet I bet AND you'll get WAY more hp gain than any catback alone could give you.
I just finished (finally) completely redoing my exhaust because of my ppe headers. It made the sound COMPLETELY different. I went from invidia mid and tanabe clone to a custom twin resonator, 3" single hushpower, back out to two 4" diameter cans with 3.5" slant tips.
It's finally at an acceptable sound level and tone to where its not too quiet and not incredibly, disgustingly loud and raspy.
GOod luck with what ever you do, but if you replace your mid and/or your cats,
you'll get lotsa sound and it may be raspy.

Is Borla better or Joe Z?
My friend has a borla exhaust with K&N intake and he is putting 277 RWHP.
The other friend who has Tom's quad exhaust with F-Sport intake and Tom's ECU and he only has 265 RWHP.
Both cars has over 100,000 KM on the engine. (Is a JDM IS350)

There's folks who put down 265 bone stock
That doesn't mean your one friend is getting 0 from the exhaust, intake, and ECU, because it was done on a totally different dyno in different conditions.
That's why it's important to do before/after testing on mods, in as close to the same conditions as possible on the same dyno.

the 2nd car got me distracted from listening to the exhaust sounds, what kind of a fog light set up is that where it flashes?
