Anybody thought of why the fuel economy improved? If the engine is getting enough fuel with a dirty filter and otherwise running good, why would the economy improve?

im guessing, correct me if im wrong... the dirty/clogged fuel filter causes less fuel to get to your injectors which in turn you have to press the gas pedal more (higher rpms) to get the same pick up as if you were pressing it lightly in (lower rpms)?

im telling you....it really did make a difference. i used to swear up and down when i started this board, that the part was a lifetime part like lexus claims but its not. this truthfully does change alot for mileage, assumming your not stomping on the gas

Is this DIY REALLY that easy? This is my Daily Driver and if I fukc something up I really don't feel like having it towed to a shop if I can't start it up. lol I am also scared to have a shop do it because if they mess it up then they could just blame it on the parts I supplied. I would want them to get the parts for me because they would charge me an arm and a leg. Perhaps I will just grow some ***** and do this. I am pretty handy as I have done many things on my car before but never anything having to do with the fuel system.
yeah rock its simple...

i snapped some pics on post # 55

thats the truth it will give you a general idea, common sense will work out the rest

it essentially follows the principle or the same reason you change your air filter at home on your a/c system or the cabin air filter. if these items get to dirty eventually they wont work effectively

Haven't had time to cut open my main filter just yet, but here's my new sock next to old one.

In person you can see what looks like little hairs sticking out of my old sock.. It's super dirty.

To be honest I haven't at all.. I don't know if it's because it's winter or what.. I was doing 18 MPG's right on the dot before and even after I did the filter.. I'm watching my MPG's right now though.. My last batch of fuel only got me about 16.5 MPG. I don't know if switching fuel is the cause of it or what though.. I usually use Chevron but used Shell my last fill-up 'cause I got a $50 card for christmas to Shell, lol, so I don't know if I just got a bad batch of fuel or what, but i'm watching my MPG right now very close because it makes no sense that I get less MPG after replacing my fuel filter.. Just doesn't.
