Default Help with new differential!

Hey guys, So i just got my 3.92 Gs300 pumpkin today from slowdiver. Thanks again. It is missing the top piece of what seems to be a plug of some sort. When i turned it over i realized i spilt alot of the fluid out of this plug too. Can i install it without anything covering it? If not where could i find a part to put over the plug?

My other question is since alot of the fluid spilt out would i be better off draining the rest of the fluid out then refilling it. Or just topping it off with universal gear fluid. My only question would be how do i know when theres enough fluid. Thanks for the help guys.

Also any advice or tips on the install will be greatly appreciated since im going to be tackling it sometime tommorow.

Here's so pics of what i am talking about.

Nice pickupTry to see if you can use your stock one. Sorry i had never taken this off before. As for the fluids, drain all of the old ones out and get some amsoil diff fluid and fill it until fluids are coming out from fill hole then you should be fine.

Use AMSOIL... I think it's 75w-90 Full Synthetic. They claim to last 500,000 miles. One time change and that's it. Doesn't gear oil just Stinks? lol.

Drain, Install, Fill till it drips out of the top fill hole then tighten everything down.

for LSD's use oil that has LSD additives.. if its open then anything is fine really.

I used Royal Purple on my Silver GS4... and Valvoline on my Red one.. all synthetic. 75w-90 weight.

that small cap is the breather vent for the rear diff. Call up your toyota dealership and ask for one out of an MKIV supra. they are all the same.

So should this be covered up with something? or left open like it is?

Also a little update. I was so eager to get this diff in the car i got it jacked up and on jack stands and realized i didnt have a 12mm alan wrench So i had to lower the car back down and wait till tommorow. It's not my fault im too impatient

The part missing is a dust cover. You can not totally seal the hole because it is needed for expansion as the unit heats up. I would try to get a new one but the one off your current diff should transfer over.

It is a cap that is pinched so it shouldn't come off, but obviously it did. You couldn't probably make something for the time being just in case they don't stock it at your local dealer.

yes, there is a plastic cap that covers this breather. Just get a new one from your dealership. It's not that expensive. As far as the fill and drain plug, it's actually a 10mm allen key socket.
