Default Turbo gs300 or GTE swap?

I have been reading over the boards all morning and searching on google, now I am just looking for some feedback. I am starting my research early, trying to figure out the best approach as I do have some time before I make this leap. What would be most cost effective, finding a 2nd gen gs300 with low miles, or just finding something cheaper and doing the swap.. I mean I can read the technical jargon I am just looking for some personal feedback for those who may have had or do have both motors. Also what are the advantages, disadvantages in the motors as well as transmissions. Any info would be greatly appreciated, if you want to send me a link to another post I appreciate it... I have always wanted to start a project car, with my business taking off I may be able to do so. Please do not flame for asking a question that may have been asked before

It really depends on your power goal and how much you want you want to spend. The GTE looks prettier and allows easier access to spark plugs, but not really necessary to swap an entire engine if you're just running mild boost.

The stock motor and internals are good for around 400-450hp if you change the headgasket to a lower compression one.

Thanks for the info guys, I will keep track of these members names. I may not want to bother them yet, as it may not be a year until I begin this project I am just getting my ducks in order. I was contemplating the swap bc it may be cheaper to buy a gs300 with high miles, and just purchase the new motor with tranny. Someone on here posted one for $4,400. with high miles. I did a search and read through many posts if any of you guys recommend any more that may be informative I would appreciate it!!! I just plan on running mild boost but who knows I may change my mind, 400-450 hp would probably satisfy me!!!

I'm in the same boat as you right now. I'm trying to decide which route I'm going to take. This will be my winter project. I'm trying to figure out if the stock GS tranny could handle 400whp with no worries. If that's the case I'll be going NA-T.
