i tried that...but i stopped before further damage...it chipped the edge of one of the opening on the perch...i don't want to keep doing that. i also sprayed some PB Blaster (stronger than WD40) in the groves and that didn't help. but you are right, i'm sure its from the stupid salt debris...f my life.
Try using a strap wrench to hold the strut assembly between the two nuts and try and loosen the upper nut. Or have someone else hold a wrench on the lower nut and you try and loosen the upper nut.
