Default Oil on spark plugs?

OK, I just got my headers installed (please see other thread on results) along with new plugs and some other stuff. I asked for all the old parts back just to see their condition. I was ASTONISHED on how bad my old TM plugs were; they were COVERED in oil! All of them! The oil is VERY VERY thick and sticky almost like tar.? They have been in my car for about 2.5 years now.

About 5 months ago I used Seafoam through the PVC valve and in my gas tank. Now, I read that you are supposed to replace your spark plugs no later than 1000 miles after using this Seafoam because I guess it kills your plugs. I didn't get to change them until about 5000 miles later.

Guys, did I damage something? The car drives great after the install of everything. I'm just worried that there is something seriously wrong due to how my spark plugs look. Please advise! I will post up picks of the spark plugs when I get a chance.

you are never suppose to put seafoam in your oil in the first place.

^^ +1, seafoam should be used in the gas tank, and brake booster line, and one other place i can't remember right now.

oil on the plugs, since you have a gs4 (coil on plug) is more likely head gasket than valve cover gasket, but seeing how you put seafoam in the oil it probably just thinned out and made it in there through blow by.

I wouldn't worry about it, it is 99% likely that it's just oil seepage from the gasket between valve cover and plug. It happens on most cars as they age.

...now, I'm REALLY confused. I read in MANY places that you put 1/3 in the fuel tank (did this), 1/3 in the oil crank case (did NOT do this) and the remaining 1/3 bottle introduced through the vaccum lines via brake booster or near the PCV valve and have the engine "slurp" it up slowly (did this as well). I have read these directions over and over again on these very forums! I need further clarification! The car drives great though!

i would use the brake booster over the PCV, but that's just me.

honestly, save for a complete teardown i really don't have much confidence in seafoam really cleaning out the engine like it says it will. I'd probably just use fuel system cleaner, or even restore if it got that bad. I have doubts about seafoam from my maxima days.

well, I will never use it again...for sure. I just want to make sure my car isn't damaged. What signs/symptoms should I look for?

ooof, nice haha.

if you put the new plugs in and shes running fine, i dont think you should have any problem. The seafoam will all burn away and it shouldn't adversely affect you that bad.

the engine has a measured amount of blow-by (old oil being sent into the intake to be burnt off) so your plugs after a while will get oil build up on them after a you put some miles on.

That's your valve cover gasket. Look at where the oil is on the plugs, the spark section is dry, your car is fine.

So, is this normal? Or should I fix this ASAP...as in, fine now but potential danger later?
