Installing my 3.76 Torsen (Supra) LSD, new supra half shafts, PI TC and tranny cooler very soon. Got quoted around $900 for all...does this quote seem too high???
I have a stock LSD and it lays down two even patches of rubber when I'm on it, so now I'm confused what is stock. How is the TRD LSD different from the stock one?
Thanks in advance,

The GS stock doesn't have a true LSD, it has an open differential. So power doesn't go to both wheels, only one, which is why power breaking and hammering the accelerator will not allow one to leave 2 patches of rubber on the road. I am not a technical genius on automobiles, but using the search engine will bring up a lot of info as the LSD has been discussed in detail a few times. I'm happy with my TRD LSD but I agree with LexCiting on it being an expensive mod, but worth it in the end IMO.

If your rear end is stock, it isn't a LSD.

Yes it still works. Plus you can hit the button and turn it off if you want.
Don't do that in the rain cuz when the road is slick the VSC is your friend.
There's some question of interchangability of the Limited Slip Supra Diff Carrier with the stock Lexus Diff Carrier. In my post below, I detail the steps I took to complete the swap in my GS400 while retaining the stock Lexus differential gear ratio. It's basically a "take it apart, put it together" proposition. All the internal differential parts are interchangeable. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=250495
From what I understand only the RMM and the Supra TT (torsen) LSD come with 3.76 gears (for quicker acceleration in the GS4xx NOT GS300). The TRD unit still utilizes the 3.23 gearing and is also an LSD. TRD is less expensive to buy but more expensive for the install.
I have been offered to trade my stock GS400 3.26 Rear End for a 4.27 pumpkin with lsd from a NA MKIV supra. I am not certain why someone would want to make this trade seeing as my Rear End is not LSD, but not complaining seeing as I want an LSD.
My question is will this bolt up and perform well? I notice the majority is using the 3.76 LSD. Is 4.27 too high of a ratio for a GS400? I do not have a TC, but it will most likely be my next mod. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I used to have the 4.27 gears and loved them. I was on 20's though. If you search for "gear ratio research" under the performance section, you will see my thread about the different ratios and RPM levels.
I have a question for the guys with the TRD LSD....
I believe the TRD LSD is a mechanical cable type LSD and therefore does NOT have clutch plates which would mean there is no clutch plate "chatter" or noise on slow speed sharp turns like a clutch type LSD has (KAAZ).
Does the TRD have any chatter noise at all on slow speed sharp turns?
