If any of you have installed the SRT intake and have experienced engine die out check the following:
Is your cone filter attached to the intake pipe tight and secure? As you know the clamp is small. I experienced some die out and noticed that my seal wasn't holding so I went to Home Depot and put a much bigger clamp on the connection and the seal is rock solid now. Ever since, zero stall outs. Just something you might want to check.

Angry engine died

Happened to me yesterday too. Driving slow through a parking lot and all of a sudden the engine dies. It restarted fine though. I called the dealer today and they said that if it happens again, bring it in and they'll check the diagnostics.

I only have 7500 miles on my 2000 GS400. It was a hot day too and had just filled it up.

New 2001 GS430 owner here. This thread is actually kind of scary and can Lexus has to fix this kind of problem, engine dying while stopped or driving? That is very unsettling. I hope these are isolated cases, but heck even cheap cars don't have their engines dying 3-4 times or more. I hope this is solved already and especially in the new 430s that they are selling.

lexguy,

i would say this in confidence: an isolated case. i owned 3 lex so far, and i actually had to find little problems so that i can go to servcie and chat w/my serviuce advisor there. the only prob i had were: cd skipping on my 93 gs(1st one), and window squeaks on my 98 ls400. that was it..

as far as the % of parts break, lexus is still the lowest of all car co.

will

Unhappy Mine too

Kind of scary....but my GS4 with only 5000 miles on it.
Babied more than anything I own stalled when I was waiting to turn left. Just put it in park, turned it off and restarted the car. Everything has been fins since.
I too have the SRT intake mods.....my clamp is tight.
SO I dont know what it could be. I am taking it in on Friday and I will mention this to them. I will also mention the "throttle-off shock" that lextech suggested.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
MIKE

I do have to agree with you on Lexus's high reliability ratings and its known for great reliability as awared by JD Power & Associates. As a new Lexus GS430 owner, I have had 2 problem immediately, Steering Wheel Vibration on smooth roads - this happens erratically. And also my driver side tail pipe is noticeably lower than the other, which is just a sore sight for me. I'm trying to get it fixed this week.

Other than that, we all know this is a great car, amazing at times too. Love it, but nothing is perfect these days.
