Default Apexi Neo/Cam gears

im relatively new to this so please forgive my ignorance in advance.. I have a 98 gs300 with a weapon r intake with a K&N filter, and a Hks Hi-power exhaust...I know what a Neo is...but HOW do you use it? ive read up on it...but how do you know what to do to make it help out with performance? also i want to put on either a hks or unorthodox cam gear...are there any good pre-sets for the Gs3 cam gear wise?
thanks

I've said it over and over on this forum and I'll say it again. Don't waste your money on NA mods for the GS300. It's simply not worth it. Just save up your money and boost the car. It's what the car craves

If you really really want to go the NA route. Then I suggest you take your car to a shop to get the SAFC tuned if you don't know what you're doing. It's very easy to tune a SAFC, but in untrained hands you can do some damage to the engine. As for the cam gears. Again, it's not much help if you're NA on stock camshafts. At most you might gain 1-2hp with the adjustable timing gear. If you upgrade the camshafts, and increase the redline then you might see some benefits. All in all, it's not worth your money to modify a non turbo 2JZ. You can spend $3000-4000 in parts and you might only gain 40-50hp. Spend that equivalent amount to boost the car and you can expect to gain a healthy 200hp or more.

i dont think i want to dump that much money on this car...maybe a different one later...so in your opinion...better to just use my money on suspension/looks as opposed to naturally aspirated mods? i am way more interested in the turns anyways...and with that note...i have heard upgrading the wheels to 18/19" will really hurt the handling...is that true?

Upgrading to 18/19 will help your handling as long as the wheels are light weight. A set of crappy knock offs or a set of showy chrome wheels are not going to be light. The lightest weight will most likely be a 3 piece racing forged wheel. I actually have a set of Blitz Technospeed Z1 18" for sale. I weighed it before and the rim by itself is 17-18lbs i think.

The second thing you will want is a wider rim, and most important good tires. Then for suspension you will want a set of good coilovers and sway bars. After that, you should replace the worn out bushings if your car is old. After doing all that, you will be ready to take on the road course or autocross and will get decently good times.

best bet it to slap some rims on, get tien coilovers, good sway and strut bars, and save up for a turbo. you can get a turbo kit from mark at clubna-t.com for around $2,000, which isn't bad at all. But that's my opinion.
