Default So I drilled

After looking at the pix of the F-Sport intake air box, I decided to drilled 16 holes on my OEM air box to work with the JoeZ pipe.
First thing I notice, the gas pedal is lighter, after that starting from 3500+RPM I hear a deeper sound...It is really nice sound
I am going to watch for my avg. MPG now, maybe I am going to get a little bit less now...
Let me know what do you guys think? Should I drill more make it 20 for more air.

I considered doing the same, accept instead of drilling holes, i was going to cut a square hole, and smooth over the ridges on the lower part of the box. I think removing the piece on the upper air box might also be beneficial.

Removing the carbon filter shows a 1 hp loss consistently. Ask caymandive.

Airflow is neither intuitive nor obvious.

Y'all realize that you could be hurting performance, don't ya?

The existence of all those fins in the airbox means Lexus did the requisite R&D/bench flow testing and decided to put those fins there for a reason. Sorry to be such a buzz kill but by drilling all those holes in the box, you may have negated all of that.

wonder why the OEM have ridges. First thing that came to mine head is to help the direction of air flow but than again....who knows.

Kudos for trying out different things!

The F-Sport lower airbox is nice and smooth. Im sure Lexus did their research there to, and removed the ridges for a reason.

I haven't seen the inside of the F-Sport box but I take it from the OP that it has holes drilled into it?

If it does, and I agree with you that Lexus does their homework, then the holes are probably most effective without the fins. Therefore, leave the stock airbox alone or drill holes and shave the fins down. Correct?

Jacked from the other thread

I dont think we can lose performance with those holes. Im sure the f-sport designers had a good reason for that hole in the filter box

There is a mesh between the throttle body and intake plenum that is part of the gasket. I plan on purchasing a throttle body gasket and dremelling it out to see if it helps out with flow.

Has anyone actually measured a performance gain from the F-Sport airbox? I'd want to know that before I drilled any holes.
