Default Best turbo for the IS

What is the best turbo kit for a 2002 IS300, how much power does the stock auto tranny can hold. Will i need to upgrade something? And how about the eng, what compression ratio the car is running and how much can the internals hold? Thanks for the help. Just got the car after my 350whp focus burned up.

i think the stock tranny will handle about 350 hp. after that many goto a supra tranny. the stock internals aren't Supra GTE strong but they are pretty strong. check out http://www.my.is there is a wealth of information on IS300 boosting

What are your horsepower goals. Do some research on kits. There are plenty out there. I personally recommend SRT. PFS is well known too. The stock auto tranny is known to easily hold up to 450whp. A transmission cooler and valve body upgrade are HIGHLY recommended. A 3rd gear sprag upgrade is also recommended. I believe the internals will hold around 500hp. These numbers arent set in stone. It all depends on the condition of the engine and drivetrain, and the quality of the tune. www.my.is is a great resource.

an auto tranny can hold about 350 whp before VB upgrade or torque converter. a manual tranny will hold about 400-450 with upgraded clutch.
If you get an SRT kit it has everything you need for your engine to make about 450 whp depending on tuning. It includes the HG to lower compression and you should have no problem with internals under 500 whp

I would go with the SRT 2.75 kit. and get VB upgrade and a tranny cooler but if you think you will want more power later on I would even get the sprag gear and clutch packs at the time of the VB upgrade.

And as far a the auto being able to hold no more that 450rwhp NOT TRUE right now i putting down 526rwhp on pump and thats not using my water meth. view here My Build With Pics

Yeah, but with what upgrades? Atleast VB upgrade, a tranni cooler, and sprag gear upgrade. Clutchpacks too? And it also depends on your driving behavior and frequency. And it will hold for awhile but obviously a car with the same upgrades, mileage, and amount of abuse but with less horsepower is going to fail alot later than yours will. Some people have good luck with their auto trannies and there have been a few with horror stories. The safe estimate with standard upgrades has been about 450 +/- 50. If you have all of the upgrades and monitor tranni temps you would definitely be safer with more horsepower.

I suggest trying Garrett T04E. My friend has one installed in his IS300.

Turbo frames matter less than the wheels and ARs. I have a TO4E, but the size of mine makes it really good for highway rolls or drag only. Anything else it takes FOREVER to spool.

for low power goals, a GN "57" turbo with a .68 hot side AR will net great results and quick spool.

the upside to my large framed .70/1.32 "TO4Z chra" is that it has actually been quite gentle on my tranny. I've put 500 through a VB upgraded a650e and had no issues. quicker spooling turbos are less forgiving on the auto.

ya i would do like 67mm or up turbo give yourself some room for upgrade later, etc that size good till ~800ish

the auto will hold a decent amount of torque but will eventually slip or loose a sprag. if you actually take a look at the clutch packs you will see how there is not as much friction material as stronger transmissions. in honesty if you really want more info i suggest you take a look at supraforums the a340e is stronger than the a650e and they still fail at high power.

dont take my word for it call up sp or boostlogic and ask them about their built packages.
a member jefftsai was developing some sprag kits but idk what happend w that.

i been workign my b5 s4 for a while and i just repopped the hood on my is300 and omg there is so much room in this engine bay vs the audi i say just do it right the first time and build the shortblock. can be done cheap for like < $800 w used gte internals and prob about < $1.5k w forged internals
