Default Intake Question

Hello

I have a 02 Gs430 and really wanted to buy an SRT intake for the performance gains. Now i hear that if you plan to get anything else to compliment the SRT it will hurt your performance.

So now im like forget that ill just get a Injen intake and a A/F controller b/c i already have a exhaust on. I really wanted the Injen for the carb# so i dont have to do much when i smog my car but i read that its still a pending thing. Is that correct? Anyone with a Injen intake verify that it has a carb# on the intake.

So if no carb# really no reason to buy Injen. Now im like forget the performance i never gonna race my car but really just want the intake sound. My question is should i just buy a cheaper intake if i just wanted the sound?

Thanks in Advance

Since you are not worried about performance, the injen will work just fine. As far as carb exempt, I don't think any intake is carb exempt, but I can't confirm that. All you have to do is swap your stock intake before you go to emissions if they check under the hood.

You could get the SRT, but again since you aren't too worried about performance, it is not necessary, but it is the loudest. As far as adding mods, it won't hurt performance with SRT. With the SRT though, if do remove it for emissions, you will still have the ECU soldered. Maybe someone else can chime in on that since I am not familiar with the SRT intake ECU. You could get a custom harness extension and make it a plug n play for easy install and removal. But that is about another $200. It is just your preference and what mods you plan to add, but in your case, you are not looking to make as much hp as possible, so an injen intake will do. BTW, what exhaust do you have? If noise is what you are after, then exhaust would be louder than an intake.

The Injen intake is carb legal. The carb number is D-476-4

I had the SRT on my GS, and then jumped to the K&N. I liked the K&N intake more (CARB legal for GS400). Plus you have the A/F to tune your system as a whole.

The equivalent of the K&N on the GS400 is the Injen on the GS430.

Yeah i have heard great things from the K&N. I would go with that over the Injen. Of course i live in CA so i cant do the SRT.
