i have an 01 is300 and am lookin into boosting at some point, but i have heard that this car is fly by wire but when i looked at it.there is a throttle cable.so shed some light on this guys thanx
The last 25% works as a limp home if your fly-by-wire system were to malfunction. You can't even get on the highway when this happens. Kinda redundant but thats how they designed it back then. The newer models are all equipeed with pedal position sensors, direct drive motor and TPS on the throttle body w/o a cable. The DBW system uses a dual position sweep pedal sensor with differect resistance. The curve of both sensors is preprogrammed into the ecu so if one fails to operate properly the ecu will set off the light.
In your case the DBW throttle control system also works the dile control system circuit. If you're planning on boosting the vehicle you will need to either find an ecu that control the DWB like the Pectel 10S or Motec M600/800 or leave the DBW out and use a common pull cable throttle but you will need an idle air valve.
The most inexpensive option for an IS300 is the e-manage ultimate with the v-manage to control vvt-i. You can pitch out the MAF meter with that setup as well. However, the DBW will still be controlled by the OEM ECU. If you wan't to upgrade the throttle body to a larger size you might be able to use the ones of the 98-02 LX470/tundra or the 98-00 GS400/LS400
