Default Questions about the Cold Air Intake

I'm thinking about getting a Cold Air Intake for my IS250 RWD. I mostly want it for the supposed hp increase (5-7) and the more aggressive sound. I have a few questions though:

1. Will it void the Lexus warrant in any way? What if I get the CAI from Sewell Lexus?

2.Will it affect mpg at all (decrease/increase)

3. Will there be any difference in hp/torque at all. If not, will it decrease performance at low rpm?

4. How will it affect the sound of the engine? Will there be a slight "woosh" noise ? My IS250 is extremely quite. I can't hear the exhaust at all, just the engine noise.

5. Will it adversely affect the engine in anyway? I assume the engine is tuned to handle the stock hp and air intake, would there be any negative affects by adding the CAI?

There aren't any cold air intakes available for the ISx50 yet. They are all short ram (hot air) intakes. They do increase the sound, but they won't provide any power gains on the street due to the super heated air in the engine bay. The warranty would most likely be voided on the MAF sensor assuming the air filter will be an oiled gauze type filter.

The factory intake is a cold air intake. That's just one of the reasons it is so difficult to improve on it.

Not every car company does a bad job designing their intakes. Toyota is typically very difficult to improve upon, and sometimes the aftermarket devices are actually worse than stock because they eliminate resonance chambers designed for power, not noise control.

Yikes. I never considered this when I removed my resonators...

I don't think they're power devices on the 2GR, but I have seen quite a few posts from Lexus V-8 owners about the negatives of removing the resonance chambers. It affects mid-range power on them. They typically say something about improved midrange in the NCF if they are used for power, but the 2GR and 4GR NCF say only noise reduction.

I thought I`d chime in on this one. I bought a K&N short ram and instead of replacing the intake pipe I extended the factory pipe into the wheel well and added a Blitz stainless filter.I have no numbers but the sound is alot more impressive than the short ram.And always in the cooler air.

Any pics? I'm trying to figure out why you bought the K&N if you didn't use it for anything. You just used the stock pipe and a Blitz filter, right?

No pics, but I can take some. Had the blitz filter already. And bought the K&N with intenisons of using it as the intake. The main reason I changed the filter when making the cold air was to avoid any prolbems with water soaking into the filter material and atomizing causing water into the intake in heavy rains. The stainless has no way of soaking up water.Their is a void right behind the front head light that works perfect for the filter and is a very water tight area.BTW I started with the short ram intake and was too loud inside the cabin IMO. Give it a try, I promise that once you hear the diff. you won`t change it back. It gets rid of the hollow engine bay echo." the classic I HAVE A INTAKE SOUND every body look at me".Makes it all engine.
