I owned a 325CI before my IS250 and I think the IS is a little faster. But when the new 3 series came out, the 325 was actually a 3.0L engine. So the new ones would win I think.

The 250 should be close to 325i and c230. Definitely much slower than 350. But since this is your first car, I suggest going with a Lexus since it is more reliable. You wouldn't want your first car to be in the shop many times and a lot of headaches. Unless you will be racing your car, who cares which one is faster. In a Lexus, you will be ridin in style. Just an opinion.

TO me the power on the IS250 is enough. Merging and passing on the freeway is definitely not a problem. Engine is really smooth and quiet.

My first vehicle was a '61 VW panel truck, it's a heck of a lot faster than that!

I agree. No one complained about 204 horses 10 years ago, but yet it seems "slow" today. I drive like a grandma, but I do hit the gas when I need to enter a freeway or pass someone on the highway. The IS250 has no problem with acceleration, and seems reasonable for 204hp.

The 250 is normally my daily beater, and traffic here is horrible, so I couldn't justify an IS350 to get me to work and back. Besides, I get over 33 mpg on long highway trips with the AC on, and yes, it is a Lexus.
