There are no chips to replace in a Lexus ECM. No sockets at all. You would have to desolder the chip and replace it with another. Not only this, but you would need to disassemble Toyco's ECM software. So far, no one has a proven claim to doing this. Ever.

Without more details of what they are doing, it sounds like a lot of other bad ideas you find on eBay.

So people will pay more then $700 for an exhaust which might create 5hp but you won't pay $700 for a possible gain of 14?

Exhaust also give you a better sounding and looking car. :/

^well I would prefer an actual chip that gives 14 hp over an exhaust that gives 5. I don't really want a louder car and I came away from a catless WRX with a full turbo back exhaust and went with a lexus because it's quiet and refined.

People would pay the $700 if it was a proven mod. Putting on an exhaust is pretty safe and proven to give gains, however the gains are typically lower. But once you start adding headers, Y-pipes, and exhaust cam the gains are more readily apparent.

The key word in your comment is "possible". Being that this mod isn't proven to give any gain let alone 14hp, and considering you would have to replace the stock ECM, you are inviting a lot of problems before benefits.

I don't see how. I don't think everyone with tint is a ricer yet that doesn't improve the performance of your car. Same goes for smoked tail lights, stereo systems, most wheels, most body kits, etc. May be you do though.

With a name like ChipPower I hope they spend more time on designing the product than the brand name.

Even places like RCTS/Techtom and TTE don't have the ability to remap the IS300 ECU, i pretty highly doubt these guys have a chance of having that ability on an even newer and more complex unit. Even the older OBD1 "chipable" Toyota ECU's have to have a daughter board added in as basically an internal "piggy back"

I'm keenly aware of this. I have a G-Force ECM for my Supra, and I've talked to Reg about what next - he says F-ConV is the only way to work with the newer stuff. And I have my doubts about an F-Con working with the 2IS.
