Default De Cat Lexus GS 300 exhaust

I own a 1998 GS 300 and am thinking of having the catalitic convertor removed from my exhaust system and replaced with a piece of straight pipe. I have had this done on my other vehicle a 2005 Subaru Impreza STI and have increased power by about 6 kilowatts. I would like to know whether anyone has done this on a GS 300 and what effect it had if any on:[*]Power[*]Exhaust note[*]Fuel consumption
If the lambda sensor is left in place is there any potential for engine damage etc?
Regards

Thanks Lexus Kid. This is the first expirience we have had with the Lexus brand, and we are loving our cars. My better half has the RX 300 and is completely loving the car. I love your GS 400, great color.

If you de-cat the car by getting a high performance header and have it tuned properly with an SAFC...you can gain about 15-20hp or so(11-15Kw). You can gain about 5hp more if you add on an aftermarket intake combined with de-cat and high performance header. You will also need a proper O2 sensor(lambda) signal simulator for the rear 2 sensors to prevent the computer from throwing a error and giving you the check engine light.

Thanks for your response JeffTsai, please excuse my ignorance but could you clarify a few issues for me. What is an SAFC? Also, is the signal stimulator required specific to make and model, or is this a generic component that will work on any make and model lambda sensor? Lastly, is there a aftermarket intake you would recommend for the GS 300?
