Question

Does anyone know why the IS 300 stock HP/Torque is only 215/218, when the same engine in the GS 300 is 220/220???

Different exhaust system. The GS300 is a duel exhaust for the most part, except for the section where it crosses together.

So a sport exhaust should be good for at least 220/220... the GS 300 dual exhaust must be to keep the noise down (and add looks). Does anyone know which IS 300 aftermarket sport exhaust is the quietest? (I don't want that loud, "rice-rocket" noise from the back.)

DMANN - Get the L-tuned exhaust if you want the quitest one. L-tuned will be quitest because of the fact its made by trd and lexus wouldn't make a rice rocket sounding exhaust.

Default want more power?

Why not just trade in the IS300 for a 2k or 2k1 maxima , get 222 horsepower, or you could wait it out for the 2002 altima, same size as the IS with a 260hp v-6 as an option....plus you'll pay about 10k less:eek:

Hey "justme" Surely you jest.... I used to own an Infinity I30 (same as a Minima) front-wheel-drive, piece-o-cr_p! Plus they're ugly any way you look at 'em. 260HP Altima? FWD, ugly, only smaller.

I don't own the IS300 yet, but I've got plans to dump my '99 Acura when the Manual comes out.

Default me jest??

nope i dont jest, 260hp altima in 2003, maxima is moving up to be an avalon fighter with a standard 8-banger. This is from what I have heard on the nissan site. PLUS, the se-r v spec engine from the sentra se-r will be the base on the altima, so anyway you cut it the power in the altima will rival that of the is300, the is although more refined will NEVER be faster than an altima with 260hp, or even a maxima with its 222 HP look at the 0-60 times. Im just saying for pure horsepower there are better, less expensive cars than the IS

Just reviewing the dyno charts for the GS and IS300s at the SRT web site http://www.swiftracing.com/engine/ecu.htm

and was surprised to find that the stock GS300 has 174rwhp and vs the IS300 at only 155rwhp. The GS also has a 13lb of torque advantage at 180 vs 167.

With the SRT ecu/air intake mod the GS gained 12hp/7tq vs the IS gain of 11hp/6tq. This would suggest either the IS drivetrain "eats" more power than the GS (hard to imagine) or the GS in reality has MORE than a 10hp advantage. Compare a stock IS with a SRT equipped GS300 and you have a 31 horsepower and a 20 lb/torque advantage. Anyone raced an IS with a GS300?

We don't buy a lexus just for the hp.

Reasons i bought mine was the quitness of the interior. I know a nissan can't compare in this category.

Better quality interior goes to lexus.

Smooth ride also goes to lexus.

Lexus service also goes to lexus. The list goes on and on and on and on.............

Forget it, lets not even try to compare lexus vs nissan cause its a big joke if we do. Lets compare lexus vs infiniti and that is still a joke .

By the way whatever you smoking i want some cause that gots to be some good Sh@#t . J/K.

Default smoking naaaaah

Well the post WAS about HP was it not. The initial post was about the LACK of HP in your 30-35k car. And you ALL now that ANY maxima especially the 4th or 5th Gen's will give the IS a run for its money. Now, as far as customer service you all are right Lexus is superior. but fit and finish. nah cant agree with you on that. While an altima may not be anywhere near an is 300 RIGHT NOW, the maxima is on the same level. Handling if i add a RSB the max with the sports package is close to the IS. Now dont get me wrong i LOOOOVE the IS , those are my initials, BUT for pure perdormance the IS has a waaaaaaaaaays to go before it can compare to the max in all out *** hauling ability.

justme,

January R&T lists the Maxima SE (automatic) 0-60 at 7.8, the 1/4 at 15.9, and the top speed at 131. Braking from 60 at 133ft, from 80 at 239ft, skidpad of 0.81, slalom at 60.4mph.

They list the IS300 at 7.5, 15.6, and 143 respectively (top speed electronically limited). Braking from 60 at 113ft, from 80 at 203ft, skidpad of 0.83, slalom at 62.0mph.

While the 5 speed Maxima is certainly quicker than its automatic version it would really be up to the driver to win a drag race. On a road course the IS would smoke it with better grip, transition and WAY better brakes. The vast majority of Maximas are automatic.

Ultimate powerwise there is already a turbocharger system and a supercharger system for the IS. Nuff said on power.

Babe factor....Lexus 10, Maxima 5 (subjective )

Thumbs up

I agree with E. and J.B....

I feel that the IS is a sweet, capable and new KING to the luxury sport compact arena!!! Just check out the last comparison test to the BMW... The IS WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus, with the new lease program for only $399 a month for 30 months the car is going to fly off the lots!!! Where can you get a top quality car of this stature for that amount of money???

I know at a Lexus dealership near you......
