Default My PermaCool Installed - Pics

Well, its installed. Here are some pre install pics of the cooler by itself. Its really thin and super light.

Now, I painted it with a few coats of hi-temp flat black that picked up at Home Depot first to give it that OEM look. I didn’t have time to snap off a few pics before I took it to the dealer. I had the dealer install it while having my 45K service done. What better time since the fluid was being changed?

Here are some pics of it installed. These are the first ones I took last night when I arrived home after dark; I’ll take some better ones when I have my camera in some better light:

The Lexus dealer shop foreman and tech that would be working on my car weren’t there when I dropped my GS the other morning, so they called me and confirmed the details of the install. I think they charged me 1.5 hrs or so to do it, I’ll have to review my invoice, but very worthwhile IMHO. I’m sure I could have done it myself, but it sure was nice to be able to enjoy a lazy Sat when you haven’t had one in a while!

The only challenge was that the fitting on the outlet of the PC was a different size than that of the return line on the tranny, so they had to use an adapter to join the different size hoses. No big.

Will I notice an improvement in performance? Doubtful. It’s piece of mind – cheap insurance. I also plan on changing the tranny fluid every other oil change (Mobil 1 as of this service) at every 10K miles; more than likely I’ll do that myself.

The Service Rep that helped me was pretty cool – a guy my age that had a older mustang, fast back or something he’s modified. I joked that I surprised a coupleof Mustangs - he had kind of a nervous chuckle at that .

A couple of the kids working there also came out with me when I left because they wanted to hear it started up. I joked with my rep about who had test driven it…he laughed and said no one (?).

My rear deck spoiler had arrived, that’s scheduled for next week. Now I just gotta get this Greddy lip painted. I think I can install that myself.

MANY thanks to BanannaGS, Tiny, and MeanGene for their recommendations, directions, and advice.

Yep - I got it from a dealer. Its actually a duplicate of the OEM, but a bit less costly ~$250 I think. I'll have to look at my notes, but I spoke to the parts manager and he gave me the run down on the cost variance between the one they use and theOEM one. He said they use this one on on their cars - third brake light installed.

As best I can tell it has just the very slightest up turn at the rear most edge of the spoiler; I don't think the OEM one does - I can't remember; jjst going on memory from seeing DaveGS4s and Bits in Asheville

I was actually lucky enough to see one installed on a blue GS the other day and it looks great.

HTH

Dexter, congrats on permacool install... looks great. How is it held firmly in place, by the way?

Your car must kick *** now.

Thanks Bit!

The cooler is held in place by 2 pass thru plastic ties. See below.

It feels very solidly mounted, for sure.

Now??!? J/K I'm now jones'n for my aero installs!

Thanks, mee too. Yeah, I asked in detail why they used this other spoiler; I'd rather pay full retail on a perfect OEM than a crappy, shoddy make look-alike. His answer was that the OEM one comes in several different pieces, and is labor intensive to assemble, and, it comes unpainted.

A company in Fla has taken a mold of the OEM, and done their own, complete with third brake light and wiring harness, paints it, assembles it, and ships it to the dealer. He told me its the only one they use on all their vehicles. Sounds good enough to me! I actually got my hands on one before I saw my own, and it is solid.

You know I'll put up some pics at the first availability.

Updated pics of the install. Nothing fancy, just a little brighter.
