I was driving the other day and my check engine lght comes on and on the screen it tells me the to check the vsc and traction control is off. So I take it to the dealer at JM lexus and the tech tells me that the car computer is sensing that I am getting to much air due to my fujita intake, I told him I have had it on for 3 months so why is this happening now. He tells me it takes a few months for the computer to sense this and throw the check engine light on. So he said he would reset the computer and it would probably throw the engine light on again after 3 months. He told me if I leave the intake on after a while it might burn a hole through a piston due to the increased heat and it would not be under warranty if they find that intake on. Now i'm worried but I dont want to take the intake off becuase i love it. What should I do? anyone else have this problem?
I don't know if this helps at all though, but when you installed your intake did you unplug the battery terminal? Try taking the positive side off for about 20 minutes and then put it back on.
Worse comes to worse, put the stock intake back on. If the light goes off again, tell Lexus that it may not be an intake/too much air problem.
i've had my fujita for 5 months+ w/no problems. try what redpaste said, and hope it works. i don't think the intake will "burn a hole through a piston due to the increased heat." the dealer is probably just coming up with an excuse to blame the intake on some other problem.
but if it does continue, try the stock airbox for a while to make sure it isn't the intake. could be a faulty intake pipe? hopefully someone else has some insight...
You don't have to disconnect the battery. You will lose ALL your radio/navigation settings if you cut power from the system. Try this procedure instead, found in the service manual, which will keep your settings intact:
(Without using an intelligent tester)
(a) Perform either one of the following operations:
(1) Disconnect the negative battery cable for more than 1 minute.
(2) Remove the EFI and ETCS fuses from the Engine Room No. 2 relay block, junction block located inside the engine compartment for more than 1 minute.
FWIW, I've had my K&N for 5 months now and I haven't gotten any CEL's. Also, I agree with jsquared - that "reason" they gave you sounds like a bunch of hooey that a lazy tech came up with.
