And that's one reason to buy Tanabe, customer service.

Used some very fine steel wool to remove the spots and so far they have not come back. It is not a problem at this time. If it keeps recurring I'll let you know. Great product for fit and sound.

I have some similar issues, specifically one large pencil eraser sized black mark where it looks like the finish came off. I'll take pics tonight and post them. I'm really hoping it wont be a problem thru the winter. Has only seen water and road grime so far and they look pretty beat up. I clean them about once a week but cant get rid of the spots.

I don't think that's actually rust, but some sort of chemical reaction due to a fluid splash and the heat.
SS dosen't rust that's why you pay more for SS.

I did not get your PM yet, so I PMed you. Still having problems keeping the tips from rusting on the surface. It takes more time then usual to keep them clean. I have never had a problem with past SS/chrome products on my vette or other cars that required so much maintinance. Please PM me with your solution.

Keep us updated
I just ordered mine 2 weeks ago
and I live in the rust belt Well more like the rust dot
I would try bronze wool with a liquid metal cleaner like Flitz.
I used bronze wool for SS boat rails and it worked awesome
start from fine and work your way up

I've had my Tanabe for less than 2 months and I see a few specks of discoloration that looks like the start of oxidation. At first I thought they were hard water stains but now I'm not so sure. They seem to come back no matter how much I polish the tips.

Sounds like the same problem. I wonder if the SS is low quality, a reason for the low price compared to other cat backs?

If I dont clean mine every three days they develop carbon stains that are hard to get out. I used Goo Gone and it helped out some. Anyone have a better solution to take off the carbon?

It's not impossible to corrode stainless. It's just harder. It's also possible the surface wasn't finished properly by Tanabe's supplier. Stainless has to go through a process called passivation, and it's possible it just wasn't done right before Tanabe got the metal.

Sounds like they're definitely keen on sorting it out too. It's hard to beat that when something strange happens.
