Default mass air flow sensor

Okay, so i've read a few posts on here about cleaning and a few suggestions for getting the mass air flow sensor replaced. I found a website that has a new MAF for $135 and was wondering a couple of things;

Is this a difficult part to replace yourself?

Is this a good price? (someone else said they paid 200 for a used one...)

Should i just attempt to clean it myself and then if it fails buy it?

Are rubbing alcohol and some q-tips a safer way to clean it?

The car lags really badly when pressing the gas, car looses power / bogs down/ becomes mushy/drive likes a geo/ and i have to wait before it will respond again. Car is out of warranty with 85k on her but has had this problem a very long time and the dealer would never work on it.

Replacing MAF is easier/faster than changing oil.

Just use a Q-Tip with rubbing alcohol. Clean the maf sensor carefully and you should be good to go. If it still doesn't work then get a new one.

I bought myself a can of CRC MAF cleaner. Just gently spray into the MAF and you're good to go. Dont spray it with full strength though as you can easily damage the 2 very thin wires in there.

but q-tip works!

To answer your question, the MAF is located just down stream from the air filter box. It is held in place with two phillips type screws and has a five wire plug attached.
Tighten just past snug when reinstalling.

The original is a Denso part with a serial number and a date stamp. So should your replacement unit.

The MAF is a live component to the engine ECM. This requires a battery ground disconnect, powering off the ECM, prior to disconnecting and reconnecting the MAF plug.
Otherwise, the electronic control module (ECM) may become damaged.

The plug lock pivits to unlock as it is pressed close to the wires entering the plug base..

Okay, so i cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and q-tips, reset the ecu and drove it 40 miles.

SOOOOOOoo much better!!

2 qtips were blacked out. I had a lot of gunk on there. 2 more qtips and it was clean.

Hitting every single stop light (not usual) I still came in about 4 mpg higher than i normally have on this trip. that's huge!

Do this when ever you get a chance, just be gentle and you'll be fine
