3;76 gears rev limiter??
Mo at SRT had warned me about these gears and hitting the rev limiter and now when im topping out first gear I hit the rev limiter a couple of times before it shifts. Is there a fix for this Im going to be running nos soon and dont want to be hitting the limiter. Thanks
This is the reason why I sold mine. When I went FI it only got worse.
You can start with a VB upgade and see if that will help.
If not there is a company that makes something so you can set your shift points, but as of yet noone has bought it. I spoke to them several times but it would mean you would always have a CEL which I didn't want.
I spent a lot of time trying to figure this out with no avail.

BigL, hitting the rev-limiter seems to be a problem for maybe 30-40% of the GS4's that put in the 3.76 gears. For those with FI or other power adder it seems to be more of an issue (even happened with mine with stock gears).
Do you also have an aftermarket high-stall torque converter like the PI Dragon?

Don't understand how though. When I went FI mine got a lot worse - it would just bounce off the rev limiter and wouldn't stop until I let off the gas. Sucked!

Yes I do have the PI TC I installed everything at the same time so I cant say it was better or worse with or w/o.This is very strange how it only effects certain cars.Dx3 did you have the TC and if so did the person you sold it to have one?Maybe we should start a poll to see who has this prob. and what there mods are maybe we can find a common denominator and find a cure or atleast an explanation.
As far as going FI and it just bouncing off the rev limiter that sucks I hope I dont run into this also.

Yes I did have the TC - and I am not sure if the guy I sold it to does.
I already did a poll

You can run taller 285 /30-20 tires and rims and this will offset the ratio a little bit.
Also flush your tranny with Amsoil Full synthetic. And when I mean flush, I mean clear out the torque convertor , not just the 2 quarts sitting in the pan. This might allow a bit quicker shift response; maybe just enough not to hit the limiter.
Lastly, if you are going FI, it has been recommended for a very long tiime on these forums, not to run the 3.76, but instead use the stock gearing with the TRD LSD for example.
What happens is that this recommendation gets lost and forgotten over time, plus there will always be one person who says their car is fine with the 3.76. I would not qualify most of those remarks because none of the comments I've read were based on any analytical testing, just general comments/remarks without substantiating their claim.
This recommendation not to use 3.76 comes directly from RodMillen Motorsport, who released one of the first supercharged systems over 5 years ago. They offered the 3.76 as one of their products, but did not recommend it when FI was utilized.
You can dig up some very old threads from roenick7 who tried 3.76 , then FI and proved the hard way, that this was not the way to go. He did testing and verified this.
