Need answers regarding S&S Headers!!
Hi....i'm thinking about buying the S&S headers...for my 2000 Gs400....
I have full 2.5 inch custom exhaust + blitz mufflers...2 high flow cats + 2 resonators....
just wondering if this header will fit in properly and will it bolt up 2 my new cats? they r not factory cats.... and they are 2.5inch high flow... i will post pix soon!
I've done many searches, all i found was BA 400's (Gs400) posts and pearlpower...(Sc430)
but it doesn't seem 2 clear... the 430 motor is easier 2 work on because of the smaller more restrictive piping....so....
Anymore step by step guides with pix?? besides BA 400's???? Whats this tilting the motor business....is it that hard 2 install this thing? hmm
i just dont' want 2 run into mad problems...because a friend of mine just got headers on his 04 maixma...header was 800USD, but the labor + problems he ran into costed him $1000USD..and now he has the check engine light on all the time...he had 2 get new 02 sensors, he had 2 extend the 02 sensors etc......i don't want 2 end up like him...
thats why i'm asking you guys since a hand full of you have done this mod already...
your input is very appreciated,
thanx,
jay

The only problem u 'might' have is the aligning of the header output flange to your custom exhaust. It may not line up 100%, or it could be fine. Installation is expensive from the wrong shop. If you DIY it takes a day or two.
I want these headers BAD, LOL...
my exhaust gave me atleast 5RWHP-10RWHP i can feel it between 5-6500RPM...it kicks ***!!!!
.With these headers i will gain 30WHP total with the full exhaust, i'm assuming...but thats a good guess since people are getting 17-20RWHP with just the headers!
I'm just scarred i'll run into problems, and something tells me i will

Since your aftermarket pieces of your exhaust are bolted up to your stock exhaust manifolds, I think you will be just fine. You might want to get new gaskets for the cat - manifold for each side just to be sure you get a good seal.
Your cats bolt to a stock mounting location, the headers are made to bolt ot a stock mounting location. You'll be fine. You might want to get new bolts too.
(re-read mine and others old posts on that topic)

thanks a lot dude for ur advise......
Just curious......how much power did u gain with the headers? do u have full exhaust?
Any reliability issues? Check engine? Low idle? codes??? Because thats exactly what happened on my friends maxima....he's got the CEL light, low idle, car run weird when he gets 2 the stop lights...
I've read that the motor has 2 be tilted.....do i need new mounts after?
thanx,

I didn't put my car on a dyno. The local dyno shop wanted 80 for a 3-pull set and I'd have to pay that once BEFORE the headers and AGAIN after the headers.
I'm really only interested in the track gains anyway. That's where the real story is as far as I'm concerned.
The only other exhaust mod I have is HKS mufflers. (and of course the headers) The rest of my exhaust is stock.
I have NO Check engine, Low idle, or codes. Runs great, sounds even better.
It's MUCH easier if you 'tilt' the motor by removing a motor mounting bolt and lifting or jacking up the engine somehow. I didn't do it that way but I wish I would have! I added about 3-4 hours of pain by not doing that. Those stock heat shields are a super PITA to get out unless you get the motor raised up just a couple of inches.
I doubt you'd need new mounts, but a visual inspection would tell ya if they were dry rotted, cracked, or torn. Most likely, you're fine.
As for what my butt-ometer says, well, I think it's only a gain of 15hp MAX. I would guess more like 5-10 across the rpm range with maybe a peak of 15. Don't forget that some of the dyno charts you've seen are for cars with superchargers on them.
