That I know of 2 were done One by Badassgs3tt like gsoup mentioned and another by Burton who aslo did the vvt-i swap. Is it easier to do the non vvt-i swap, YES. Why? I'm not a very technical person in explaing things like this but from my shop to many members to many people I've met along the way, the majority said to do the non vvt-i swap for ecu reasons. Maybe burton or Nick could drop some insight.

Hey bluelex, with the swap you did. How much of the stock functoins did you lose? VSC, steering wheel e-shift? Or did your shop manage to keep everything working. Is the CEL on?

I lost cruise control, traction control but I never had e-shift to begin with since mine is a 98 but if you have e-shift you will lose that too if you do the non vvt-i swap since that trans never had that option in japan. No CEL light on which is cool.

Anyway to keep cruise control? Seems like a pretty bad luxury to lose!

Thanks,
Elliott

I kept cruse on my swap, but it only works up to 67 mph. I do not know why, but I think it has something to to with laws in japan as I am using the JDM ECU. I am confident that I could have made the Traction controle work, but I didn't feel like spending houres on trouble shooting just to turn it off as soon as I get in the car.

I will say it one more time this is not a hard swap. I worked on it for 12 hours and had everything but the fuel return done. There is minimal wireing. The bigest problem I have had is that you lose OBD2 controle and I need that to pass emmisions.

bluelex, did you use the 4spd or 5spd with the swap? I assume the 4spd since the ecu controls the trans. Is this why your cruise and traction control don't function? How hard was the wiring? Did everything pretty much plug in like a VVT-i swap?

Its the 4spd tt auto that came with the clip. I didn't do the swap myself but the wiring wasn't hard at all since there is no vv-ti to try to control or tap into. I am also using the jdm ecu on mine right now. Only thing we changed was converting to true twins instead of sequential, its has been much more fun this way. Its mostly plug and play except we had to order a yoke from a 1st gen gs3 in order to get the driveshaft to bolt right in.

Hey, I'm just finishing up an IS300 to GS400 v8 swap. I have a ~43k mile 2jzge VVT-I motor that came out of my 02 IS300. I have motor, tranny, AC, PS, ALT, wiring harness, ecu and a few more odds & ends. The tranny is currently disassembled as I needed the output shaft from the IS300, but if it's going back into a GS, LS or SC, then I could reassemble it with exactly what you need.

I'm in Dallas TX, so getting it to you won't be a huge hassle. I might can even deliver it for a fee. brad.bedell at comcast.net is my email.
