Default Torque Convertor: Stall speed?

Anyone know what the stock GS400's stall speed is? I used the search function but "stock stall speed" is apparantly too vague. I get threads dealing with PI TC vs. Stock and such.

A cheesy way to estimate the SS of a TC is to press the brakes down hard and push the gas pedal while watching the tach As the RPMs are increased the car will hold still until the stall speed is reached, then the car will start to move forward, overcoming the brakes. The number you see on the tach is the brake stall speed, lower than the flash stall speed by a couple of hundred RPMs. I did this on my 02 GS430 and I estimate the flash SS to be ~1800RPM.

I would do a search for Dave GS4 and stall speed. I believe Dave had his put back to stock if I recall correctly. I thought it was 2400 but I could be wrong.

Straight from the 2000 Repair Manual page SS-42:

Engine stall revolution:

1UZ-FE: 2,250 +- 150 rpm
2JZ-GE: 2,700 +- 150 rpm

thanks for the info!

Last night before I made this thread, I reved the engine to 1.5kRPM just to be safe. I was able to chirp my wheel though!

my last car had a stall speed of 1.9k RPM so I figured I shouldn't go too high. But now that its around 2250RPM, I'm going to play around some more.

Is the stock stall speed that high? PI TC stall is 2800 (unless you order more). If the difference is just some 100-500 RPM more than stock, why is everyone making such a big deal out of PI TC saying that it's day and night in driving? I'm not that technical, but to me the difference of 100 RPM for 2JZGE is not worth $900 then

you're right in your thinking. a 2800rpm stall speed wouldn't be much of an upgrade on a 6 cylinder. That is the 2JZ right?

On my 99 GS400, my stall speed when stock was more like 1800. I'm not sure I put much faith in the book numbers because I keep seeing people report closer to 1800 for the V8's.

So, for us, it's an effective 1000rpm increase in stall which is huge. Then you think about "flash stall", which you get when you simply floor the gas pedal without any brake action. As mentioned above, the rpm will be 100-250 higher. (I get 3000 on mine, using the PI TC)

Yeah, I was talking primarily about 2JZ. But still, if you say that your stock GS4 is 1800, I don't think that stock GS3 is 2700 then. Can't be that different. Can anyone else confirm that stock stall for 2JZGE is 2700?
