I just bought a set of the Denso IK20 for $77.88 shipped to my home. Was this a good deal?
What kind of life should I expect from these plugs?
My 1999 GS400 that I purchased last summer has 65,000 miles and runs great getting 19.9 mpg on 100% city driving. Should I change the plugs now or wait until around 80-90,000 miles (fairly certain these are original plugs)?
How long would it take me to change these plugs (I am no mechanic but I do change my own fluids so I would say I am one step above a moron)? I have read that I need to put some oil (is this just regular 5W-30 motor oil?) on the last two threads of the plug prior to installation. Is this correct?
I would recomend you change the plugs every 50k or so. The Iridiums are a great plug and tend to "self clean" due to it's material. Where did you get your set? The plugs won't really give you a boost in HP, but it should be a little better with your MPG.
It should take you between 1-2 hrs to change the plugs. The ones on the passenger side closest to the firewall are a pain since there isn't much space. You'll see when you take off the engine cover and look at them.
You could put some antiseize but make sure that you don't get any on the tip or before the 1'st 2 turns of the thread as you don't want any antiseize getting into your combustion chamber. I have not used oil as an antiseize for any of my vehicles
BTW did I already ask "Where did you get your set?"
I am getting them from a guy at Bobistheoilguy.com from the "Items for Sale" topic. I was under the impression that all of the plugs were accessible on the GS400 without much problem. If all I have to do is remove 4 10mm bolts to remove the engine cover, remove the air filter assembly, disconnect electrical leads to the coil packs, remove one 10mm bolt for each coil pack and remove the coil packs and then change plugs and retrace steps it seems like even a noobie like myself should be able to do this in less than an hour. Am I missing anything?
