Default VSC button does nothing

I’ve never attempted to use it in the 6 years I’ve had her but I just noticed it does nothing when I depress it but also sometimes I have to hit my little safety switch to unlock my shifter
can these be related?
I replaced the brake switch a few years ago & booster/master cylinder last year
I have no ABS or VSC lights on
Thanks Everyone

I would suggest having it scanned for codes. Not all issues illuminate an engine light or the others. The need to manually release the shifter is likely a failing brake pedal switch and that could indeed have to do with the VSC button not doing anything.

The VSC button turns the skid control off which will be reflected by a "VSC OFF" light on the gauges. What do you mean when you say it does nothing? Does the light not come on?

And for the shifter, if your brake switch is working then the next likely culprit is a little ECU in the shifter assembly that unlocks the shifter when you press the brake. It's a pain in the *** to replace because you have to pull the shifter assembly out and disassemble it to get to the thing and then hope to put it back together correctly.

When I depress the button it doesn’t light up on the dash
i assumed it was something I could turn off & on if needed but I dont know
As for the brake light switch I’ve had the same issue with my old unit so I replaced it to no avail as I still have to stick a pen in to manually shift out of park

Have you tried hitting it a bunch of times? It might just need freshened up.

It could be the button or the bulb. Do you see the bulb on the dash when the key is first turned to run?

I’m almost certain it comes on at start up but I’m away for now & have to check when I get back
If it is on during start up what’s my next plan of attack?

Work that switch and see if you can get better connection.

You could pull the switch and check it.

Having a full system scan for codes can help show hidden issues. Most any shop will do a free system scan. Give it a go and let us know what's stored.
