Default 1UZ Non VVT-I rebuild

Anyone ever do a full rebuild?
I pulled out a 92 UZ, and it didn't run right and I began a VVT-I 1UZ Swap,
thread update on that will come later, but as of right now, a project is finally running and driving...
But if anyone has experience or input to share please do
Goal essentially would be to give a refresh/ overhaul to achieve a healthy compression ratio so I could eventually down the line throw a little bit of boost at it.
Motor in question
One of 2 or three spark plugs that end up with oil on them after changing spark plugs and some driving...don't know why

It would probably just be better to find a used 1UZ motor (lower mileage if possible) and do a minor seal refresh on it. Since the motors are already famous for being ultra reliable (and relatively inexpensive now) you probably can't beat one that hasn't been cracked open for major work.

Have you done a compression and leak down test on it? If so, what were the results?

Hopefully bearings and piston rings are good. Might be able to freshen heads and seals and be good to go. The older(pre 95) 1UZs are known to be stout with stronger rods and they are the preferred 1UZs for boost.

I agree but as I basically got this motor free, I'd really like to practice engine tear down and building on this power plant rather than a motor that was healthy, with that,
Any ideas where I could get the hardware?

In deed, I plan on throwing boost at it probably in the far future because of this, and I really should've done a compression test when I had the chance when the engine was still in the car,
but if I do get the chance for a rebuild, I'd change out the piston rings and bearings I'd leave alone.

You still can. You only need to rig up a battery and jump the starter to crank it over. And not much sense in replacing rings and not replacing rod bearings, at the very least, since you'll be disassembling them anyway in order to do rings. With that said, not much stopping you to just go ahead and do crank bearings at that point.
