I am not sure what clutch kit is supposed to work best with an SC400/1UZ engine and an R154 but for a stock non-turbo 2JZ-GE with only 225hp/210ft-lbs I use the standard OEM 7M-GTE clutch disc and pressure plate. These are specified for the 1986-1992 Supra Turbo 5-speed M/T (R154) and will comfortably work against a *stock* 280hp 1JZ-GTE's power so they will more than hold a 250hp 1UZ's power... assuming a 7M-GTE clutch kit works with a 1UZ engine (I don't know myself):
OEM 7M-GTE Pressure Plate
OEM 7M-GTE Clutch Disc
OEM 7M-GTE Pilot Bearing
OEM 7M-GTE Release Bearing (if you don't already have one)
You can buy all of those from a Toyota dealer or Driftmotion will sell you all of this for $230-ish. You will also want ARP flywheel bolts ($30-ish) and you are supposed to use a dab of Toyota FIPG on each flywheel bolt.
I am running this very OEM 7M-GTE clutch kit on my non-turbo 2JZ-GE R154 car and it's perfectly fine and has normal clutch life.
For turbo 300whp-ish capacity plus a bit more (up to a rated 365 ft-lbs) I am personally going with the SouthBend (DxD Racing Clutches) Stage 2 single-disc street heavy duty organic clutch kit (Southbend P/N K16063-HD-0) which is about $480. Seems reasonable to me for mild power applications with an R154.
IF a standard R154 clutch is able to work with a 1UZ engine R154 swap (I think a 3S-GTE flywheel is used for this??) then I wouldn't think you would need more capacity than the standard OEM 7M-GTE clutch with only 256-261 horsepower (crank) / 260-269ft-lbs torque (crank). If you have a later VVT-i V8 with 290-300 hp (crank) / 300-310 ft-lbs (crank)... then you would want the higher capacity clutch.
I am sure there are other budget choices in a higher capacity single-disc organic face aftermarket street clutch probably from ACT, Clutchmasters, Exedy, etc. I just like what I have read about SouthBend's R154 clutches and how often Supra MKIII and MKIV owners have spoken positively about their products.
SouthBend does make even higher capacity clutches for the R154 but they are more expensive and for the sake of the setup you have I think they are irrelevant.
