R154 SINGLE disc clutch
2J GTE & R154 (1 jz/Soarer tranny)
Now I've gone thru some threads already and seem to have some conflicts on specific brands and side tracked with twin-disc setups. (Sorry for another threaded topic)
Need some solid accurate input on daily driven cars, seeing moderate traffic and able to hold 500whp which would be safe to say 450whp/tq rating on strictly single disc setups. No harsh engagements, on/off or heavy pedal for a calf work out.
Thanks for any input

agreed
you will not get a soft pedal with a act hd pressure plate as is used in that hpf kit.. i have act hd pp and it holds at 600rwhp , but do remember clutches are rated in trq handling at the flywheel not wheels .. i make about 460ish rwtq which is about 530 flywheel trq... so im at the limits
the only way to get a softer pedal and a power holding clutch is os giken twin disk for like 2200

Hmm I really shy away from ACT in particular due to it's heavy clamping force which throws alot of pressure to the crank, clutch bypass or not. I guess the HD is less punishing than the Extreme.
I was considering the South Bend OFE- any users

i have been using act heavy duty for 4 yrs now , no crankwalk.. bypassing neutral safety is key but also not sitting on clutch at lights helps as well .. if you r not going over 500 rwhp use stock pp and high end clutch disk
I was also considering going stock PP and an aftermarket disc due to the output power goals. Sitting in traffic and riding the clutch can't be avoided unfortunately, so I'll have to consider that heavily.

Stock PP, stock flyweel and feramic disc will be more than enough for you as long as you don't do burn out or beat on it too much if you do go to the track you will be fine.
heavy duty can and does promote crank walk if neutral safety not disabled and if you sit at lights with clutch engaged.. extreme is almost guranteed ..i have been on heavy duty for 4 yrs but no riding clutch
I run the ACT HD as well, though it is for the W58 and may be weaker than the R154 counterpart. I never ride the clutch in traffic. I even pop the car into neutral and leave the clutch out while coasting to intersections. I know it sounds like paranoid overkill, but I do NOT feel like going through the bottom end again.
I Daily drive mine and I'm making decent power. Act HD/Steel 13lb fly/XTD 6 puck. Holds the power great, sometimes chatters a bit If I don't rev it the rite way due to my rear end ratio/weight of the car. But I'm happy with it.
I was expecting alot of Spec users chiming in but the consensus seems to be ACT users (HD PP) good street manners disc and not much issues, if any.
Got a chance to test out a spec 3 or 3 +. PP is ok but the 6 puck material is very grabby with almost instant engagement with no play for a subtle roll off. Forget about a 1st gear slow roll as the rear end/DS vibration is unbearable, even if you rev the rpms. Granted it's more of a RR or track setup to hold some power.
