I have already replaced the sensor but it's still giving me the code 16 engine coolant temperature circuit. Does anyone know how to fix this and would that cause surge idling? I've checked all vacuum lines and replaced the pcv any suggestions would be most appreciated, thanks in advance
Yeah, I didn't think about what year you were driving. You need to read up about the ecm's. Your going to read about opening up the ecm's and looking at the state of the capacitors. There is a company on here that rebuilds them.
Wait a minute, a 16 is not an engine coolant temperature code is it? That is a 22. A 16 is a missing input from an auto trans. I don't mess with autos so don't know specifically what that code does, maybe somebody on here can answer that.

According to the scanner and the blinks of the check engine light is code 16 and it reads clearly engine coolant temperature circuit. I guess I have a unique car, it had 42 VSS code but that went away when I replaced the pcv
What year and model? It doesn't really matter but just to be specific what we are talking about here. A quick google search will confirm what we are discussing here.

Ok, good. So here is the way to read the codes on a OBD1 Toyota/Lexus (sorry for the quick merge of two pages). Your scan tool, while reading OBD1 does this procedure below and gives you a table listing. It is clearly wrong on what it is telling you a code 16 is. Sorry, you do not have a unique car you merely have an expensive jumper wire and an incorrect listing.
