Default Engine swap from 94 to 99

Is this possible? I have the ECU and engine wiring harness from the 94 wanting to swap engine out cause it's non vvt-i... Is this easy or would I run into a lot of headaches?

It will be more difficult because you will be going from OB1 to OBD2.

I would stick with OB1.

No no I'm looking to swap the 94 obd1 into the 99 obd2 I can't just use the obd1 ECU and wiring harness with the 94 engine and just plug it all in and it work?

It will be nice to say first what is the year and model of your car . An SC300 or SC400 ?

Then explain what are you trying to do and why so people will understand exactly what you are trying to accomplish

I am still confused just reading the 3 posts so far ... are you trying to remove the VVTi engine and install the non vvti into the 99 ?

Correct. I'm wanting to put the ECU wiring harness and engine from the 94 to the 99. I want this because I know tuneable ECU's are easier to find for non vvt-i engines. I'm looking to boost later down the road. I've already swapped in the 5 speed w58 from the 94 to the 99. Was unsure whether I wanted to use the 94 engine or not. So it's been sitting in my garagewindow.post_1485828437642_5 = function(win,msg)**
win.postMessage(msg,"*");
}window.post_1485828440733_22 = function(win,msg)**
win.postMessage(msg,"*");
}

If you swap the 94 engine / harness / ECU , you will never pass any mandated gov't / DMV emissions / inspection tests . I guess you are not concerned of it if you do it. There would be some minor wiring modifications needed.

Not sure where you get the idea of "tuneable ECU's are easier to find for non vvti " . That is garbage and said by people who do not know anything about VVTi . Most aftermarket ECUs for the 2JZ can handle VVTi. It is a mere control of the solenoid which has two wires . So don't believe any of that crap. Another given , you go aftermarket ECU , unlikely you will ever gonna pass any emissions / inspection tests. When one starts thinking of making power , the first thing you do is let the whole exhaust system freely breath and one way is taking out cat converters .. there goes your ability to pass emission or inspection tests too.

Since you are talking about "tuneable ECUs" , you are definitely talking about aftermarket ECUs. Now that you are considering an aftermarket ECU , I will strongly suggest keep the VVTi engine . It is definitely a lot better than the non vvti provided :

a) if you are not aiming for more than 400rwhp / 400ft.lbs of torque then you can keep the stock rods and pistons and control it with the aftermarket ECU so you can run E85 which is good for high compressions engines
b) if you are aiming for more ,you definitely need to replace the rods and pistons of that VVTi engine .

VVTi doesn't change or increase peak power or torque BUT it gives you more power and torque down low (lower RPMs) where we spend most of our time driving. It saves fuel or improves gas mileage . It spools your turbo faster. So those against VVTi on a 2JZ simply do not know what they are talking about. It is not really complicated and have nothing nothing to loose with VVTi , instead a lot to gain. VVti is not even hard to tune . It is a two wire solenoid as I have said that opens and closes to control the flow of oil to the intake camshaft.

So , if I were you , keep vvti and replace rods and pistons then control it with an aftermarket ECU . You will enjoy that car better on the streets.

What are some good aftermarket plug and play ECU's for vvt-i 2jzs then? You've been really helpful so far I appreciate it

ProEFI and AEM Infinity are the most commonly used on the 2JZ platform .you can use Haltech, Motec too and a few others . But I will go with the first two and my personal preference will be the first.
