Hello to all the sc300 owners out there? I became a first time owner earlier this year and so far I really like the car. So I noticed my fog lamps didn't work, and the driver side was halfway filled with water. I start the process of taking it out and oh man it was nasty. It wasn't water anymore, it was some brown liquid that contained colonies of bacteria. Some of it got on my forearm and I'm sure a droplet got on my lower lip. Stopped everything and had to go take a shower. I found the hole where the water came in and patched it up with my trusty hot glue gun.

My question to the gurus and DIY folks is how can I disassemble this lamp to clean it without breaking it. I looked on Ebay for a replacement, but the only direct match was a pair that cost $200 and one of them had a hole in it that you can see in the picture.

Opening the assemblies up is the same process as for the headlights and tail lights, which is best done by heating them in the oven. The general recommendation is 5-6 min @ 300 degrees (place newspaper under assembly). Gently pry the lens away with a putty knife or flathead screwdriver, and place back in the oven for a few minutes if needed.

I tried opening up a leaky tail light with the alternative heat gun suggestion, and that was a monumental waste of time. I was nervous trying the oven method the first time, having read too many accounts of melted lumps resulting from too much time and/or heat, but it turned out to be a piece of cake.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to give the oven method a try this weekend. I really, Really, REALLY hope I do not screw this up. I'll update you on how it goes.
