Cylinder head rebuild / na-t
Hey guys. im putting in a Gte head gasket. i have the head off so i figured i might rebuild / clean it. Im only really gonna clean it and put new vavle stem seals on. Can I use the Ferrea valve seals on the stock valves?? Also when doing bigger injectors .. say 550cc, do I need a different fuel rail? any help is greatly appreciated.
Also while cleaning the head a bunch of washers fell out from what it looks like they sit under each valve spring. is therer one for each valve because it seams like i lost a few....

No I have all 14 of those washers... I took the valve springs out and there are washers or skinny round flat pieces of metal with a hole in the middle under them. I just need to know if each valve has to have one. I cant tell if all the valves have to have one because I cant find all 24...

those are the "shims" . they are specific to each valve they are not all the same.
lol there is one on top of each valve yes, you should have 24 of them.
when you remove them you are supposed to keep them in order and matched number wise so you can put them back the exact same way.
since you have lost some and lost the order, now you have to take the head and cams to a machine shop, where they can install the cams and then measure each one to figure out what size shim should be there, and then they order them in specific sizes as they have different part numbers (if you cant find the originals and figure out the order)
you can also do this yourself if you follow the manual but you just created a bunch of work for yourself that you didn't need to do. the shims are not all the same thickness, even though they might look very close.
if you are pulling the head off any toyota, you should make a station where you can set down things in order and number them so you dont have this problem. before I remove the shims etc.. I number the tops I1- I12 for the intake side, and E1-E12 for the exhaust side. that makes it fool proof even if someone knocks your stuff over. even the cam caps go in order.
sort of like this, so when you go to reinstall no measuring is needed, just put back in original place.

i should clarify. the "washers" im talking about are UNDER the valve spring..... they all seem to be the same thickness when measured with a micro meter. Just not sure if all the valves had them. I washed 2 heads and ended up with 42 of those washers. am i missing 6 or what? i was washing with a high pressure pressure washer and compressed air. **** just went everywhere and i didnt know those washers were still there. Ill snap a few pics of what im taking about if it still doesn't make sense.
Ali i know what the shims are and i have them all in order with the corresponding valve, valve spring , and retainers all in bags from i1 to i12 and e1 to e 12 also the cam bearing bolt things are in there own separate bags
