Default fmax kits on sale?? downside?

I see the fmax kits are on sale for $4500. Whats the difference another $1000 gets you from toyomoto? What about the $2000 difference in the toyomoto stage 1 and 2 kits. Seems like quite a difference in prices for very similar kits. What are the negatives of the fmax kit? After sorting through the search function all I could find was a quality issue. For a grand I can live with having to mess with a few fit and finish problems. I think so anyway, unless you guys say different.

---something minor like a cracked manifold?

Do yourself a favor buy a kit from one of the reputable vendors like PHR, Sound Performance, or Toyomoto. That $1000 is not worth the risk or frustration.

Other than the manifold not being stainless and having crappy welds, what else is wrong with the fmax kits. Suppose you had an fmax kit with some awsome custom SS manifold? Possibly even jetcoated, how would that be? Believe me, i know you get what you pay for, thats why i sport Volk alloys and BFG G force tires, but its always tempting to pay less for something that puts out the same amount of power.

BTW, i called fmax about the SC kit only fitting the 93+ and their response was, the mas is different as well as the ecu, some customers have had problems in the past with 1992s, but the kit will FIT. Is this true?

really cause I called about a year ago and they told me the 92 was an entirely different car than the 93

if its just the ecu couldn't you just swap in a 93+?

also DaveH on supraforums was developing a kit for 3500 which should work for our cars and im guessing even that woudl be better than the FMAX kit and its still fairly affordable

the Dave H turbo can also put out a good bit more power than the T04 with the fmax kit
it also comes with 6 520cc injectors, fuel pump, wastegate, intercooler, etc...
the only thing it doesn't have is fuel control... you can run a LS400 MAF and AFC or use AEM or a VPC, etc

Really? Thats a pretty decent price if the manifold is stainless. Has anyone on this forum fabricated their own manifold? If so, how much did it cost? I'd just like to get an idea of what goes into making one.

i think i may still try to fabricate my own on the side

what you need is the flanges and prolly some weld -els... also called butt-welds...

dave h's manifold is a custom job; its not a cast manifold like Toyomotos is... but then again he doesn't charge you $800 for it either

ok...very interesting. i dun think any manifolds are stainless that are being mass produced. toyomoto and fmax are both cast iron. but for the toyomoto kit, there is only one kit produced for the car. you can try to make your own, but damn, you get what you pay for. I believe that the toyomoto kit produces the most hp out of the box. fmax quotes 320 bhp. thats not bad. toyomoto claims over 400 hp. quality of toyomoto from word of mouth out there seems to be very high. as for the fmax kit, it only fits the 93 and up models due to the ecu settings on the 92. you can swap out the 92 ecu for the 93 and everything will work just fine.

no Dave's kit produces the most power out of the box... add a VPC or AFC/LS400 MAF to his kit and you can make 500rwhp

When will DaveH's kit be ready? Have you gotten the manifold yet?

Thanks.

yes, yes,
when will Dave's kit be available!???
I would definitely wanna try it,
I'm giving up on the full gte swap....
(too much down time)
A bolt one kit would be better for me, only hard part would be to change the head gasket

any one have direction for that?

Thanks
Ken

PS, what's the strongest clutch I can use in my 5 speed??

i'm responding to this one for everyone

my Dave H manifold is on its way

boredguy77 already has one and is running a Grand National turbo; i'll be running a Garret... he's shipping me a manifold without a flange and i'm going to get a local shop to finish it off for me with a tig welder

Dave's kit as far as I know includes these things:

PTE52 turbo http://www.precisionte.com
manifold
ex wastegate, 40mm Tial I believe, 7psi w/g i think
open vent setup for wastegate
downpipe
stock TT sidemount intercooler
intercooler and intake piping
gaskets, misc stuff
oil lines
55lb/hr injectors ( i think they are 55, might be 58 or something)
BOV, not sure which kind; prolly HKS SSQV
headgasket, not sure on brand, will lower to 8.5:1 CR

things it does NOT include that one will still need to run the car:
fuel control (standalone, VPC, AFC + LS400 MAF, Greddy Emanage, etc)
boost gauge

things it does NOT include that one will want:
beefy clutch
possibly LSD
EGT gauge
ignition control of some sort if your piggyback/standalone doesn't already have it
spark plugs

More info on my setup can be found in my sig, and Dave made his official post on supraforums

his kit is now available as far as i know; but you will have to wait a while for everything to be done... several people are running it right now... but from what I know; he said $3500 is the target price for everything you need except fuel control and a boost gauge
there are several MKIV and MKIII supras running the PTE52 turbo and making right at or over 500rwhp on pump gas, so don't doubt the power of this kit

strongest clutch? from what i know its the horsepowerfreaks clutch... second is the clutchmasters stage V, SC300TURBO has had great results with the clutch; tho he blew his tranny several times
