I know this is probably on here already but I have no idea how to search for those specifics. I am planning on doing a aristo 2jzgte swap in my 1998 sc300 and was wondering if the ecu for a 5 speed is300 would work for it? Or if there are any ideas out there to have non of that cel light or anything on the dash. if anyone could help me out or post a link to the finding I would really appreciate it.
Since you are planning to do a GTE swap, you would not want to use a non-turbo GE ECU that is incapable of understanding and operating under boost. I cannot say what will defeat your CEL light but usually that issue in 98-00 SC's that have manual swaps results from the factory 2JZ-GE VVT-i or 1UZ-FE VVT-i ECU's not liking the absence of automatic transmission shift solenoids. You would want to stay with the 2JZ-GTE ECU that came with your swap engine.
Swap to the GTE drivetrain with its matching ECU and it won't have the same issue even if there is a remaining CEL light on the dash due to some incompatibility with the USDM OBD2 wiring.
Beyond that I can't offer much help, myself, but others would know more. What I have heard told to me is that even though all swaps have differing wiring harness changes needed it is supposed to be slightly more of a compatibility fit to use 2JZ-GTE VVT-i or 1JZ-GTE VVT-i drivetrains in the 98-00 SC300's. Supposedly. I have heard this from one swap shop and I am no expert. Others here are. Still, all manner of GTE swaps have been done.
If you were simply swapping to a manual transmission in your 1998-00 SC300 and were planning to try using an IS300 5-speed manual ECU... I don't think that is possible but I've personally wondered if it could be in order to have a working true M/T ECU in a VVT-i SC300. There is probably a reason or two why that wouldn't work though, since electronics probably differ between the two cars.
Thanks for the input I was looking at starting with the 2jzgte auto swap because they are relatively cheap and then going to a 5 or 6 speed swap ( 6 speed if I find 7 grand laying around lol)
Good call. An Aristo 2JZGTE is one of the most common swaps you can do. If you don't mind the automatic at first, getting the engine swap out of the way will change the car. Don't forget to address the brakes as well. I recommend that even with a stock engine.
Aside, there's a debate at the moment as to whether Getrag has discontinued the V160/161 or not. The prices for those will only go up.
An R154 or alternative transmission swap, on the other hand, is not nearly as high.
Also I was wondering if the aristo gte auto swap a/t Trans was the same as stock because I have a shift kit I'm going to put in my stock tranny but it it's the same I'll put it in the other lower mileage Trans

It is not the same as the SC300 auto transmission. You should stay with the Aristo 4-speed automatic gearbox. I don't think your shift kit is compatible but there are shift kits available for that transmission which is the same as the Supra MKIV TT Auto transmission.
Hmm... I would cross-reference that shift kit with the 93-98 Supra TT Automatic transmission just to be sure. That's 99% the same 4-speed that the Aristo uses. My understanding of the difference between the SC300 4-speed auto and Aristo/SupraTT 4-speed auto is additional valving in the turbo application and electronic control.
